Tapping noise in LS1

So recently my motor started having a tapping noise come from it. I thought it could be just a lifter tapping, but normaly it goes away after 20-40 seconds right? Well mine goes on untill it gets to running temp. and even then it still taps a little bit under 1500rpms, anything above that it goes away. Does anyone know what it could possibly be, and have any solutions to it. If it is a lifter tapping would a thicker oil help it any, and if it is a lifter should I replace it or worry about it? I'm running Royal Purple 5w-30 full synthetic, and Lucas Full Synthetic additive.

Mine does it too. Like Fury said, it's an LS1 thing. It's down right nerve racking hearing it from under the car. The sound resonates through the oil pan. --

Mine did this exact same thing as others have posted. Did when I bought my car with 64K miles and at around 100K miles I started using Amsoil 10w-30. With the amsoil I couldnt hear it any more. --

mine was making the same kind of noise...the dealership said that it was a worn out lifter. They replaced the whole longblock for a worn out lifter but i didn't care...it was under warranty

ls series motors are prone for lifter tap, especially on cold start.

It's not lifter tap, it's piston slap on cold starts, and this thread is old as hell. --

Wow old post. But yes the last two times I changed the oil in my Trans Am I used Amsoil and the sound was completely gone. Car had 113K miles and sounded like a damn diesel up untill it reached full operating temp and then some. --
