Hey all, I am new to f-body and was wondering if there are any differences between the LS1 and LS6? I know obviously of the power, thats why I want to put one in my 99 Trans Am. If I did this swap, what all would I need to do/get? Thanks a bunch!!

The blocks are slightly different, they have a different intake manifold, etc.
You could convert your LS1 to an LS6, but it's pointless to bother, you could get a ton more power for the money by just going for regular performance parts rather than the LS6 conversion. --

Thanks for the input, but the difference between the new LS1 and the new LS6 (both long blocks) is 95 bucks. So I thought I would ask.

if you are just changing blocks, the LS6 isnt going to be any "faster". Some 02 fbodys came with an LS6 block. Only overall difference is heads/cam/intake/PCV system really between the two engines. Your better off getting a bigger cam/ported heads/and an LS6 intake for your LS1 and make much more horsepower than a stock LS6 for the same price to buy the LS6 parts (LS6 heads, cam, intake, valley cover, etc). --

Have you considered how much it would be to buy a shortblock + nice set of heads and cam? -- Former ride: 531RWHP/477RWTQ Only bolt ons! ...technically everything used a bolt to install

I have actually, but it seems too far out of my price range right now and I really just want to get the car on the road. It has been sitting for almost 2 years. This is what I plan: buy a stock LS1, put a cam, valve springs, roller rockers, and longtubes with a Y-pipe. I already have the SLP Loudmouth but I am thinking of changing the muffler because I will eliminate the cats in the Y-pipe, so it would be really almost too loud! I already have a cold air lid, smooth air bellow and throttle body coolant bypass. And really, with what I said above and what I have now is all I want on the stock LS1. I may throw heads on it later down the road, but I want the reliability until I start a 408 Twin Turbo build

Sounds like a good plan, especially ousting the loudmouth. Friend of mine has a cam'd ls1 with LTs and no cats + loudmouth, it is way too loud and doesnt sound all that great. He also plans to replace the catback.
