SES light?????

I have a 98 LS1 Camaro with the SES light on and it is driving me crazy. I have already taken it to the shop and they told me without really getting into it and charging me an outrageous price they didn't know what is causing it. I keep getting codes 138 & 158 which is high voltage signal on both rear O2's. I have tried replacing them, but get the same result. The car has new plugs and wires, and the coils fire properly. Anyone got any clues or have this kind of problem?

get it properly scanned, shops will charge 0.5 to 1 hour of diag time, see if there is a autozone or some auto parts store that scans for free. -- 2002 Navy Blue Metallic Trans-Am, 6 Speed, Leather, T-tops. SLP Flow Pack, M/T Street Radials, Free Mods, otherwise stock. Moser 12-bolt and BMR Suspension soon to be installed.

I took the car to AutoZone and pulled the codes. That's when I took it to the shop to get it repaired. All codes were cleared, but 2 days later they came back and I haven't been able to clear them again because nobody can seem to figure out what is causing this. This started out as code 131 which is bank 1 lean. After I installed my headers and cat-back it changed to 138 & 158.

I made a mistake with the original code. It was 171.

could be a dumb question. Are you running shorties or long tubes? Are you running cats or no? --

was a code 171 with stock exhaust, now has codes 138, 158 with long tubes. Got codes both with cats and without, even with o2 sims.

this is extremely aggrevating because in 1 month it is time to get inspected and I have to figure this out and repair it so I can pass, but can't seem to diagnose.

Leave the cats in, swap the front o2's to the Corvette Downstream o2's Bosch 13111 I beleive the part # is.
This should fix it, sims are worthless. Leave stock o2's in the back and put the vette downstreams upfront. -- 2002 Navy Blue Metallic Trans-Am, 6 Speed, Leather, T-tops. SLP Flow Pack, M/T Street Radials, Free Mods, otherwise stock. Moser 12-bolt and BMR Suspension soon to be installed.

I had the same issues with my LTs. I could never get it resolved. LTs make 02s go crazy. I finally just had the code tuned out. Other than the p0704 code that I can't seem to solve, I don't get any 02 codes and the car runs fine. I had them edited out over 2 years ago. -- 01 Arctic White Firehawk

I had a 95 Z28 with Pacesetter LTs and it was a simple bolt on along with Flowtech "purple hornies" glasspack, no cats. Just true loud ground pounding sound, but no go due to lack of backpressure. Not once did I have a problem with that car. I have been told that on 98 & newer cars it is hard to modify due to strict computer settings. The problem with that is that I have heard of many people modifying their cars with no problems. Just to let you know, according to the book I have the 0704 code is the clutch switch if that helps any.

Thanks. I know it is the clutch switch. I've replaced it several times and it keeps coming back. Sometimes I wont see it for months other times it comes and goes every couple weeks. I can't figure it out. Good luck with the LTs though. -- 01 Arctic White Firehawk
