Has anyone installed Hedman stepped longtube headers? I just installed and my car has lost virtually all power. I contacted tech support and he tried blaming it on my muffler which worked just fine before installing the headers. Then he blamed it on the muffler shop and said they ruined and clogged my cats. I ran it open header like he told me to try and still no power.

check your plugs. Lots of people crack them and kills your power. Are you getting a service engine soon light? --

Kinda funny huh!!! Lil ol Statesville. I have checked and double checked everything and it is all fine. I have spoken to Hedman designer Jim Macfarland and here are all the things he has blamed it on...1) clogged muffler...NOT! 2)burnt cats...NOT! 3) broken coils...NOT! 4) loose plugs or wires...NOT! 4)upgrades to engine...don't have any. Now in his last response he said due to the volume and velocity of exhaust flow in these "offroad/race headers the computer needs to be tuned for more air/fuel delivery. Spoke with local FBody shop and they said BS!!! Hedman expects me to remove headers, send them back so they can inspect and for me to wait while they decide what to do. What a ripoff. Never buy Hedman. Next set I'm gonna get is Pacesetter cause I can't afford Kooks, SLP or anything like that. I installed a set of Pacesetter LT's on my previous 95 Z28 with LT1 and never had to do anything else.

pacesetter? You want to buy the cheapest header made to replace a much better one?
There is a problem somewhere. Yes teh car should be tuned to achieve maximum gains, but it isn't going to harmfully affect it if it's not.
Something happened at the install. A burnt wire, broken plug, leak at the flange gasket or something similar. Think of everything that you removed and check it all again.
A header cant make the car run worse no matter how it's designed. If that was the case, all stock manifolds would make all cars run terrible. Unless someone welded the header shut, it's not the header, there just isn't anyway that it can be. -- Owner of HBHRacing.com Xtreme performance products

The Hedman's actually cost less than the Pacesetters and with the problems I am having can see why. I uninstalled the headers today and rechecked all the plugs, wires, coils, etc. I also ran water down each primary tube on the headers and nothing is clogged. After they dried I reinstalled and got the same results. Hedman wants me to send the headers back so they can inspect and decide what they should do. They are telling me that these are race/offroad, but it doesn't say that anywhere, neither on their website or in Summit catalog or carshopinc where I bought them. Only problem is that I need my car running so that is not an option. I guess I'll just have to drive it like this for now, hope I don't have more problems, and save up $ for Pacesetter unless someone knows where I can get a set of LT's for about the same price.

Off road means there are no provisions for emissions hook ups. So how did you block off the air pump lines and EGR tubes?
Like I said. A header simply can not cause a car to run bad. It's just not possible. As long as it routes the exhaust gasses and pulses, it's working. Brand isn't going to matter. I could make one out of PVC pipe and it would work fine untill it melted away. It's something with the install, I can 100% guarantee it. Everything was installed properly and there are no neaks, no bad connections, nothing broke, and nothing left off. Hedman told me these were offroad/race but they have all the emission provisions on the headers and all is hooked up. I just don't know aht exactly it could be, but it just doesn't have nearly the power it did before installing these.

Are you basing that strictly on feeling? If you want to be sure, dyno it or take it to a track and compare. Just because it "feels a certain way, doesn't mean that it is true. Headers are going to shift the power band a little. If you don't notice an actual misfire, or noticeable problem, there probably isn't one. -- Owner of HBHRacing.com Xtreme performance products

I haven't taken it to the track, and don't plan to. I would love to dyno it, but if I had the money I would do a complete dyno tune. I had the car long enough to notice that from 0-80 it just has no power compared to stock. It is the feel in the seat of the pants. It just feels extremely sluggish.
