Mail order tune

Posted By: 02Z28Camaro On: 01-04-2008 @ 15:23:17         Reply | Edit
I'm looking at sending my computer out to get it tuned for my gears and was just wondering what I should get changed. What is the torque management and do I want it removed? Should I change my rev limiter, idle, fan temp, shift points etc. I was looking at the mail order mini tune from Carolina Auto Masters and was just wondering if anyone here got it and what all can I expect with my mods.

Torque management, makes sure you dont blow the tranny, for performance its considered wise to remove but after you do that your transmission is always suspect for failure.

I wouldnt remove it unless I was sure I could have it rebuilt. I'm not trying to scare you, just giving fair warning.

Unless you have upgraded the valve train I wouldnt touch the limiter, I dont think you will make that much more power to be considered worth it, depends on your motor.

As for the others, there are plenty of LS1's running on stock temp, the big issue back when LT1's ruled were the aluminum intakes heat soaked like a mother. They needed to be cooler on ave. With a bag of ice you can cool down the stocker pretty quick.

In my own opinion, if you didn't have headers done, I wouldnt even recommend a mail order tune. Personally if you can find a person who dyno tunes, that would be considered optima, yes its expensive but if done right you will make power.

Not all mail order tune guys tune for the right reason, they will tune for WOT, give you more timing, back off on the fuel and lean it out. You really dont want that. Again not trying to scare you, just make sure who ever is monkeying around in there knows what they are doing.

I would personally send it to HP, HPtuners.com

I would get a dyno tune but I don't think there are places in my area to get it done.
