NEED HELP PLEASE! URGENT!

I'm Perplexed..

My girl's 1999 TA was overheating. It seemed within about 15 mins of driving it climed to the red zone. She turned the car off as soon as this happened and drove it to the mechanic. Didnt noticed anything different with the engine other than it was overheating

We just took it to mechanic and they are claiming the ENGINE BLOCK HAS MELTED ALONG WITH BLOWN HEAD GASKETS and we need to buy a new motor for $8000?!

Is this even POSSIBLE considering the circumstances? I was thinking either a thermostat or waterpump at the MOST. It was only driving hot for a 1/2 day before it was taken to mechanic!!

if your engine block melted and your head gaskets(plural) were blown, wouldnt your car run pretty damn rough?

shes driving a 1999 Trans AM 100K Miles

We had another mechanic look at it and he said the prob is the "water pump" and "temperature sensor". He is charging $300.

I wouldnt be suprised if its just the sensor though. But either way going from a melted block to a bad water pump is really a long way!
