Headlight motor opinions needed

Posted By: 00TATexas On: 01-03-2008 @ 11:25:10         Reply | Edit
Headlight motor finally quit this morning. Options the brass rebuid kit $90 for both sides O'Rielly auto parts $65 remanufactured one side. Or the dealer $280.27 installed or only $ 190.73 to purchase motor new one side. I would like to do the rebuild kit but am worried about opening the motor casing and getting it glued shut again any one tried this. Thanks

Yep, Ive tried it. Its not bad getting the motor out and fixed. The glue lasted just over a year and then cracked off. I replaced with a factory motor the second time.
Another option, watch the Brent Franker video to see how the motor comes out. Then, order the motor you need from GM Parts Direct. About half the price of the dealer.

Inspect the whole motor first. Mine was rusted(I live in the Northeast). If it's in good shape change the gear. If it's crap, you're better off with a whole new unit. I put a new unit in with the brass gear, so I hope it will last quite a long time.

just get the brass ones and throw yours away.

even if they are ok now it will happen eventually, they are made of nylon and will strip again.
