ls1 automatic to manual trans swap

Posted By: 06Black On: 01-03-2008 @ 20:50:24         Reply | Edit
Hey ya'll I'm here trying to dig up some information for my uncle.

he has a 99 WS6 that hes in the process of building up for street/strip duty's

i'm helping him along with this so i'm here to try and dig up any information on the availability if any on a kit that will let us pull the 4sp auto and swap in a T56 6sp

i know this has been done before because my roommate had a TA that he turbo'ed and he had to do a manual swap but hes not around for the next week or so to get any information from.

if any body can help or post any link's to a kit like that please do so.

thanks.

Don't knock the auto's too much. I wouldn't trade it. I've got pretty good 60ft's and they are consistent.

Best 60ft - 1.62

i really wished i had bought an auto. I kick myself every day because of it. I am almost tempted to trade my car in for one and take the hit. *Sigh*

People make fun of muscle cars with auto

I am biased... I love having my 6 speed. However, even I have to admit that a good torque converter in a well built auto will walk me at the strip all day.

Tell your uncle he is better off trading the car "in" for a manual car. Way to much work unless he has his heart and soul in this one already.

I will say i am not happy with my 60' times with the t56, but they are a ton of fun on the street. as for a hard swap, no way. not that much work. I have done 5 swaps, including 3 gen auto to t56.

Hard? Not really in comparison to some things. But hard enough to make it not worth it? IMHO, yes. There are plenty of 6 speed cars out there to just buy the one you want instead of swapping.

Only cars I would ever consider any type of tranny swap? Cars with 700r4 4l60e that I want a TH400 in, or an automatic car that didn't have an option of manual. Otherwise, just buy the car with the 6 speed in the first place
