motor noise

Posted By: 98ls1 On: 01-04-2008 @ 22:47:34         Reply | Edit
I recently started hearing a slight knock on the bottom end of the motor. I thought at first it was on the top end but I pulled the valve covers all rockers looked good checked push rods for straightness there fine I retorqued the rockers to specified torque. I started up the car I hear a noise still I jacked up the car got under the oil pan that is where Iam hearing the noise, I took it to basko engines (I've had a stroker motor built there for my blazer) He said he thinks it is a collapesed skirt of the piston.
Any have any idea how long i have on the motor , the car only has 79000 miles on it,
It was a retired texas dps car though.

In my opinion, if it's knocking it's already done. So why drive on it that way?

I would tear it apart and fix it no before it becomes a bigger problem. At least then you'll know whats going on and maybe try to salvage some good parts before they unusable like the crank or rods.

you have to pull the motor from under the car with the k member suspension and transmission all at once I think i might have a problem doing that in my garage. Any advise on this , or just take it to a performance shop and stoke it w/ forged internals for $5ooo that would be a 383 w afr heads for a stroked 383 and a $1000 for remove and reinatall.
