LS1 pinging bad

Posted By: 3BLACKSS On: 01-04-2008 @ 01:35:51         Reply | Edit
I cant get rid of it. it does it really bad in 2nd and 3rd gear only when the throttle is wide open. Starts about 3000 rpm and gets worse as the rpm's get higher. At 6000 rpm's it's almost ear peircing! Car pulls no codes. Did the sea foam today and still does it. Changed fuel filter and serviced k&n. When I run 100 or 101 octane it goes away. But with 91 octane, forget it. Still should not do it. Can someone help please???

Any aftermarket tune?? Anything disabled??

All sensors has to be working and if you have a ping, ODB2 PCM's pick up almost ANYTHING so you should have a SES light.

let us know. if it does, get it retuned.

That doesnt make sense, knock with no SES. Are you the orignal owner??

Check your fuel pressure, run it with the guage on the rail and put a load on it, I wonder if your just loosing flow and when you put a good octane in it, it makes up for the lack of tolerance

I am not the original owner no but I can tell you that it started out as a Washington car and was then shipped to Alaska. After that the car was shipped to Arizona where I purchased it. I am currently still living in Arizona. Is it possible that the factory or the dealer could have advanced the timing for colder climate? When I bought the car it had 24k miles on it. It now has 27k and has had this problem since I bought it.

Call the dealer to ask them to drop the latest pcm tune in. and see if the problem persists.it should be a minimal shop time fee. or take it for an oil change and ask them to do it and see if they will do it gratis.

I just read that you serviced the K&N, some times if to much oil is inadvertantly applied to the filter, it can transfer that oil onto the MAF. This can cause bad readings on the air coming into your engine. If that is the case it could throw off just about everything since the tune is looking for one air volume and receiving another.

Go get some electical contact cleaner, take the MAF out of the car, and clean it out realy good. reinstall and see if the problem persists.

We did that on RSM's car, it ran shitty for a few miles but cleared, but ive heard more extreme cases messing up the MAF which can determine the driveability

this is one of the situation that Arm Chair diagnosing doesn't help, Go to a dealer, get a tech 2 and record/scan the car, it may not be detonation/ping....
