Question about roof of camaro

I am looking at a 99 red Z28 camaro with about 16,000 miles on it. The car looks brand new, is super clean, no rust anywhere, engine bay looks extremely clean and the car starts up like a champ. Havent driven it yet, I will on monday but the car is a hardtop, but the top of the car is black. I have never seen a camaro in person with a black top and the rest of the car a different color. Is this normal? It looks pretty sweet with the black top, i thought it had t-tops at first glance. I car-faxed the car, came up clean, had 4 owners for such a low milage car but no accidents, lemon, damage or major work at all. Plus, still has warranty through GM dealership (car is at a GM dealership). I hope it runs good, started up fine, sounded great and the car is flawless inside and out. I have no pics of the top to show you because the autotrader pics does not show it. Just wondering if the black is normal on a red or that matter any other color hardtop camaro. Thanks --

Nevermind, I just looked at kungfutebag's white camaro and noticed the same thing. Interesting....I couldnt say I have ever seen this before in person but now I know it is normal. I guess I just always thought the black was t-tops on other cars or in pictures. Should have been smart and checked it out first, thats what drinking beer and investigating at the same times does...I will post pics if I do end up getting the car. The 3.8 has been great but I hope I can enjoy the LS1. The car is bone stock and doesnt look like it even has been driven in rain, no dirt or rust anywhere underneath. Just worried about the 4 owners, kinda strange to me, any suggestions about that?? I have been reading posts on this site for a long time now but never really post... --

It's definitely normal. Nothing to worry about.
Ask about maintenance records. If they can provide some, no worries about the 4 owners. -- Black '98 Firebird Formula M6

That is what I was thinking. The car looks great and you tell it has not been repainted, few tiny scratches up front and a pretty big one underneath by the scrape plate. I guess we will see how it drives today, I am going there in a few hours. I am gonna try and get maintance records and see what the deal is about the warranty because if it is covered, then that would make things a big easier. I would see it hard for carfax to not pick up an accident, or total, I mean, yes, the owner could put a new motor in and get away with working on it without carfax knowing but anything else would seem extremely hard to me. Plus they would have to be very good with cars to do all that and no one finding out. Here is the link to the carfax if anyone wants to see if they see something out of the ordinary...

So I gave the car a nice test drive today, dealer just told me to take it and keep it as long as I needed to. Drove really well and had no problems with it at all except my fabulous manual skills....need to work on those. Kinda got a little clunk goin from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd, is that normal and I am just a bad driver or do you think something could be wrong. Waiting for approval from credit union for loan. They wanted $14,900, talked them down to $13,600, sounds pretty good to me for a 99' with only 16K and extremely clean inside and out, havent seen a nicer looking fbody that was stock in person. Also has a 3 month warranty that I am gonna try to get extended to 6. I am going back friday, pics will come then if all goes well. --

A clunk when shifting could be a bad tranny mount.
If you hear a pronounced THUD, then something's wrong, but the T-56s is a naturally clunky unit. It's not very smooth. It could just be normal. -- Black '98 Firebird Formula M6

Thank you joe, aka assbreeze for the info. I have driven in a LS1 but it was heavely modded so it was hard to compare...I think it is normal as well, my pops was just curious about it because it was noticable, i told him it sounded ok to me and plus he hasnt driven a manual since his 70' GTO which he had back about 15 years ago so its been a while for him. Plus it was a 4-speed..I am going to have a chevy dealer that we always deal with check it over if i do get it just to make sure, I mean it is under warranty so why not? I kno the people over there really well and they will let me know if anything is wrong for sure and do a good job. They host the camaro club at their dealer so they know how much people care about these cars. Thanks again for the info. --
