which one???

Posted By: reserve13 On: 01-03-2008 @ 19:24:51         Reply | Edit
I'm looking for my first trans am and have found a couple, but i need you guys' help. One is a red 02 trans am w/ flowmaster exhaust, small performance cam, and 35k miles. The other is a pewter 01 ws6 stock w/ tcs, factory hurst shifter and 72k miles. They're both at the same dealer and both are 17,950. Which one would you recommend? I probably won't do any major mods in the near future. Thanks

the stock one.

"small performance cam" is a bunch of horse shit intended to lure you in under false pretences. It either has a cam, or it doesn't.

alright thanks guys. also, what do y'all(excuse my southern talk) think of the reliability of the trans am. i'm trying to convince my dad that even tho they stopped making them, it doesnt mean they were a piece of crap.

I would say generally fbodies are pretty reliable. I know the three that I owned gave a lot and didn't ask for much.

As far as you buying one. I would try to find one that has not been touched internally (i.e. new cam etc.). Only because there are lots of people who put cams in their LS1's and some skimp out or do not know what their doing or do not know if they did something wrong during the install.

Basically you don't want to buy someones potential future problem. There are lots of people who put in cams and leave the stock lifters, or oil pump, basically just change the the cam springs and pushrods. Or maybe someone knicked a cam bearing during the install and didn't notive or care, or didn't even check the front bearing to see how worn it was. I think you get my drift.

Sorry for the long story but I think have lots of people have no problems after a cam install and others who do. Lots of times it comes down to improper installation or skimping out on parts or both. I know I wouldn't want to take that chance.

i completely understand. the previous owner actually did put in new lifters to prevent any engine shake, so i guess that's good, but you're right. If i'm trying to get a reliable car, i probably don't wanna have to deal w/ something that could possibly ruin that, even if it was done right.

As far as getting one, I went to see them both yesterday and I was surprised at how much meaner the WS6 looked in person. I've seen them around town before, but up close was amazing. The only problem I have is that its 40k more miles than the other one, so we'll see how it plays out. Thanks a lot.

tell them u will give them lots less money. especialy living in texas that is way too much for them, i would offer 12 for the ws6 and negotiate up to 14 at the most.

"No way dude...i saw an LS1 fight godzilla and the LS1 beat godzilla and it looked in the air and was like what do you think of that god? And god was like bring it bitch, so they fought and the LS1 beat god and now the LS1 is god because its the greatest thing ever"
what I once thought was, is now no more.
