When I spun a bearing in my 87' about 5 years ago...it made the same noise. It's probably not good.

i would put my money on something like an exhaust leak. make sure every thing is tight and go from there.

Does it sound like its coming from the front or rear? I am assuming front. If you have just a cat back I would say the factory exhaust manifolds and y pipe should be tight enough. But you never know.

I think it could be a leak like CATransam said, or a bad lifter(s), a bent pushrod(s). Hopefully not a bearing because that would be very bad. What is the oil pressure like?

If I were you I would start the engine, pop the hood and try to listen under the car. After its warm have a friend get in and rev to 4500-5000 while you listen under the hood to try to pin point the noise.

well today I let my wife hear it and it just kinda sounded like a "jingling" noise, kinda like if you very casually jingle your key's in your hand,I take the plastic bag comment back.

I think you wouldn't just hear it at high rpms if you spun a bearing.

Hey you might need new rocker arms. mine made a ting sound at high rpms and then i found needle bearing in my drain plug from my rocker arms. I think it might be that. Sounds excalty like the problem i had. and it cost me about 700 to put new harland rockers in.

It wouldnt just be in a certain RPM range if it was any damaged componants, I would say exhaust leak just due to that is when the engine is generating some of the highest exhaust pressures

You may have a bent pushrod...like me. LS1's are prone to this if they are over revved.
I spun a bearing in my '75 and it sounded more like a dull knock at high rpm's than a tick.

A bent pushrod won't kill the motor quick. A spun bearing will get worse very fast. You could throw a rod after a short time.

Do you run premium in your tank? If not, it could be spark knocking? You said it sounds like jingling keys, spark knocking sounds like a bag of marbles being knocked around or something like that. I've only heard it once in my uncle's car though.

Well a little update,it doesn't do it anymore!I put it in neutral got it up in the rpm range and nothing, then I did it from a 20 mph roll and it still didn,t do it. I guess it was just a flook or something.Thanx for the help guy's.

If it does come back, i would check your manifolds or egr valve, i had a tap in mine and it was just that i was missing the gasket for the tube of my EGR valve to my header.

sounds like carbon build up causing "pinging" or detonation. some times a few WOT runs can knock out the carbon build up and fix this pinging problem. you could also use a top end cleaner like seafoam or amsoil top end cleaner. both work great. do a search on how to use these products.

One more thing. buy a can of non residue parts cleaner and spray the little filliments of your MAF. but dont toutch them, they are fragile. if you have a k&n filter, the purple oil will build up on the MAF and can cause the car to run bad.
