throwing a code

Posted By: fasteddie94 On: 01-04-2008 @ 21:10:29         Reply | Edit
Right now the SES light on the TA is on with the code for a fauklty cat on bank 2. It's been scanned twice and deleated twice to be for sure we are getting the right code.

Does the computer do anything to compensate for the faulty cat? The mechanic that scaned it said it may run lean.

So the main question is can I put o2 sims on it until we pony up the dough for headers or will it harm the car? I'm just not clear on what effect a faulty cat has on the engine, and if the computer does anything to compensate for it.

Right, I have the faulty cat code. I assume that the computer figures this out from the rear o2 sensor readings. My question is does a faulty cat do any damage to the motor? If it doesn't can I run o2 sims to stop the computer from throwing the code until I just get headers anyway? (couple of weeks)

I noticed that when the SES light is on the car seems dead down low compared to what it usually does. I was thinking that by the computer pulling the code it either richens it or leans it out to compensate. So if the cat has no effect on it other than emissions I was going to put the sims on it so it would stop throwing the code.

If when pulling the code the computer doesn't change anything then I guess it's pointless. That was just my idea on the situation, not sure if it's right or wrong though.

the primary function for a SES light is for emissions, and primarily used to conduct emissions on obd2 cars
