Both will take quite a bit of work, but I'm not sure which would be easier to install.

Carbed LQ9 is what you want. Fairly simple and will make nice HP. I got a freind that put that set up in a 98 S10 pick up and went low 12s with it. A bigger cam just put him in 11.4s a few weeks ago.

why would he want a carbed engine for a DD? especialy when fuel injection would be much better for just about everything. If you can get the deal and dont plan to mod much, I would go with an LS1, if you are going to mod the motor a lot you can get a better deal on an lt1. It depends on your goals after the install.

"No way dude...i saw an LS1 fight godzilla and the LS1 beat godzilla and it looked in the air and was like what do you think of that god? And god was like bring it bitch, so they fought and the LS1 beat god and now the LS1 is god because its the greatest thing ever"
what I once thought was, is now no more.

I was thinking of the simplicity of it, that and I always seem to think in terms of quarter mileing and not DD'ing. My bad.

BTW, there's a guy selling a third gen in the for sale section that has an LS1 in it and has pics posted if you want to see what the finished product could look like. http://www.fbody.com/cgi-bin/carsfs/read.cgi?msgid=13062

i would definitly go witht the ls1 because you dont have to worry for one about the opti going out every time it rains. and a frined of mine just put a ls1 in his 3rd gen and it cam out awesome. I personally would go with the ls1 cause of power and weight. not to say the lt1 dosent have power, its just that right off the batt you are getting a better crank and rods. plus ls1 love there juice(150 shot at a time)!
