What's the best programmer or mod?

Posted By: LS101 On: 01-01-2008 @ 19:10:02         Reply | Edit
I was wondering what type of programmer everyone seems to like i just recently bought a 2001 ws6 with a cam, exhaust and intake. I have very little money left and thought this would be the best bang for my buck at this point. If any one has any other ideas please let me know or just let me knwo what kind of programmer would be best.

Don't buy one. It's a waste of money. You already have a cam exhaust and intake. It's time for a real dyno tune. That is what you need. And for anyone considering one, it's a waste of money because you can get a real dyno tune for not much more money and a tune is what you'll end up needing after mods. With your mods, if you havent been tuned, you will unlock the cars potential by getting the ignition and fuel mixture honed in.

I wish I knew mpre about this myself. I bought a Diablo Sport programmer and will soon have time to put it to use. I have read a few things recently that a few shops can upload tunes into the programmer based on current mods. Does anyone know more about this? In addition, what does the original Diablo sport tune entail? Obviously, I should have researched this a little better before making the purchase...

My question would be if you were to buy a PCM.. Does the program inside automatically unlimit the top end speed, and lower the fan settings or would you have to ALSO buy a programmer to do this.. On another note what does everyone put in the Stage 1 or the Stage 2 and is it OK to lower the thermastats when you install the off road chip.. Russ

A shop that dyno tunes will usually include the speedo correction, fan operation, speed limiter, delete downstream o2's, delete egr, and a bunch of other stuff. How far are you from SLP in New Jersey?

If you live in NY, the ONLY place you should get your car tuned is The Vette Doctors, Amityville, NY! Those guys kick asss, and they know thier shiit! (they tuned my car, I drove 2 1/2 hours from jersey to see them!)

They are also UNBELIEVABLY cheap, with a FULL dyno-tune being like $300 bucks. You cant beat that anywhere, most places are $400-$500 bucks.

Really? $400 to $500? That seems expensive. I've called a few places here around San Jose, CA, which isn't a particularly cheap place to stay. Most dyno time runs $125 to $130/hr. With my tune taking 1.5 hrs, it was much less than $400. Is there something additional in the FULL dyno-tune you mentioned that I may not have gotten, or do they just overcharge at the Vette Doctors?

And then what? Make a change to your car and you have to pay someone the ridiculously high prices they charge again, that's insane. Invest in tuning software if you plan to keep the car and continue to modify it. Pays off in the long run.

Some places charge a lot at first and the every tune after that is $50 bucks or something. Some are free after the first time. Keep looking into it until you find the best deal.
