Weight Reduction?

Does it really become a need at some point to just start pulling things out of the car? Is there a way to have a 9/10 second car, without gutting it, so that it is decently presentable?
Oh, and what are the ramifications of having a 9/10 second convertible? -- 1995 Convertible LT1 Firebird, metallic hunter green

Let's just say that I knew a long time before I found the car that it was the one I wanted. I have been slowly turning it into want I really want. Somethings have to be built, because they cannot be bought. I don't know how many LT1 convertibles were made, but they are few and far between. That alone makes my project worthwhile. When the car is a classic and I can pull in to the show, it will be sweet. It may take a long time to get to the 10 sec mark, but I want a show car.
It's a firebird. It's meant to haul a$$, and look sexy doing it.
Seeing as I don't plan on ever selling the car, as I have already put more into it than I will get from it, I know it will receive a lot more money in the future.
In the 2 years that I have had the car I have dropped a lot of cash, and time, into it, just trying to bring it to a "stock" LT1 level. I believe I am at that level, finally, and I can now work on making it haul some butt. -- 1995 Convertible LT1 Firebird, metallic hunter green

It's possible to have a full weight car in the 10's. It takes more power, but it's not a stretch by any means.

For the following:
383 stroker, with lots of shiny parts. Twin turbos, yeah that in and of itself is going to be expensive, but worth it. True dual exhaust, I have been looking and i think you could run 2 2.5 inch pipes near each other, not sure where to put the cat though. Moser 9" with either 3.73s (for daily use), or else 4.10s (and just learn to deal with it). I haven't made the decision on NoS yet, it almost seems like cheating. And you wouldnt have the power handy at all times.
Wicked sick body kit (not Honda-ee) just some nice skirts and transAm bumper skins. Not sure if to go with the 98+ fender vents or something like the corvette slash and crimp (the side of one of the recent corvettes)
Wicked sick green flames, on either green or black, paint job (after said body kit. I saw these flames on a motorcycle gas tank and they were sweet.
Full Tubular supports, k-members, lca's, and anything else that may break when the front of the car comes smacking back to earth.
Complete racing suspension, because I love that floating feeling when you go whipping around a corner and the ass slips out from under you and you slide sideways into the lane that you were aiming for. Need the rear fenders "nudged" in to accomodate drag slicks. I saw them on a red camaro in new york and while i may lose something, it as well will be worth it. I am not sure how to deal with the shocks, because i think they are in a different spot on the convertible than on the hard top. (they are under the rear seat retractors (yeah fun))
Full blue/black interior, with leather racing seats. I haven't decided whether or not i am keeping the back seat or turning it into a short fat sub box (I don't like rap, so it takes a couple smaller subs to push decent sound, for hard rock and techno.
I just want a wicked sick car, i don't really like the looks of anything new except the camaro, which you cannot get yet, but will have a convertible option, or else the cadillac xl7, but I dont have 100k laying around.
My main goal is to be able to lift the front tires about a foot, off the ground. I believe that is more torque than hp, but i have been doing a lot of listening and not a lot of talking, so I may have that wrong. -- 1995 Convertible LT1 Firebird, metallic hunter green

the 100,000 comment was because i thought his first post was to have a street car.
But now i feel as if i'll stand by it, maybe its closer to 50 or 60000 but a street car (from the daily use comment) with a wide body and full sound system and all that jazz, lift the tire a foot off the ground, all pretty expensive things to do. --

oh, i know it's going to hurt my pocket, but hell, ricers are a dime a dozen. I think their body kits are buy one get one. But to have a really presentable F-Body, that also hauls some beef, is a rare thing. It seems that people either go for speed or looks, but usually not both. -- 1995 Convertible LT1 Firebird, metallic hunter green

Build your self that 383 with all forged internal, get a good fuel system set up and spray the shit outta her. With my no weight reduction 383 HOTCAM and mild p&p LT1 heads I hit 11's on a 75 shot so 10's aren't impossible. --

Im in the process of gutting my car, Its by no means will ever be a "show" Car though. Im planning on some good 9s next year. Hope to get the car around 3000-3100 Pounds, No PS, ABS, Air bags, AC, No HVAC What so ever, Light wieght carpet, Kirkey Seats, Front and rear Impact bars, No door bars(Maybey) radio, speakers, you get the idea
ive ran my 383 for about 3 years with 10.5:1 compression. Gonna bump it up to more like 12:1, Solid roller, and 300-350 shot on top.
Ive bought almost all my stuff used. yes it is pricey but not as bad as you think.
But its like some guys told me when I started on it(First a hot cam and a set of Mid lenghts)
There will come a time where you have to choose a street car or a Drag car. Mine will be streetable but Not one youde want to drive everyday --

^...are you going to be keeping the 6-speed or swapping to a th400? From the sounds of it your probably gonna ditch it in favor of the lower et's but who knows. I say keep it and bang your way to 9's. -- 94z28 13.0@109 (still tweaking) best 60ft:2.22

I thought a lot about keeping the 6 speed, However Id be up for buying a new clutch, At least 500, I talked to the tranny guy today and I can do a 400 with a brake for 750 or s 350 for 110 with a brake. I can sell the 6 spedd and still coem out ahead, Plus lower ets and less broken parts. Plus you cant buy a blowproof bellhousing for a t-56 and other little catches.
So in other words the 6 speed is out on the floor and Im in the works to go auto --

Yea, that blowproof bellhousing would have been helpful for Taner. I know he was just injured not too long ago from a tranny failure. Either way it sounds like your car is going to be moving out quite nicely! -- 94z28 13.0@109 (still tweaking) best 60ft:2.22
