<< Previous Thread - Ran a Mustang at the track   Next Thread - Caught a little race last night... >>

Just an idea of some of the cars around here!

Posted By: RedScreaminMachine On: 03-20-2010 @ 11:17:36         Reply | Edit
A few of us got together last night for some Hooters and then went to a cruise on the local strip. Just to list off a few of the cars that you have to compete with around here...

1995 GT with a fully built motor and an F1 blower that runs well into the 9's.

1969 Camaro with a 502 and a loud as Vortech blower than runs 10.0.

Late 80's Mustang GT, built motor and a blower that dips into the 9's.

Mid-late 90's Viper RT-10 with what appeared to be a Kenne Bell blower. The owner said that he puts down just under 900 to the wheels on race gas.

1995ish Saleen (not sure if it is a clone or not) with a built motor and a SICK turbo setup. On race gas the car has run an 8.8X and he drives it on the street regularly.

Then there was a whole slew of cars that run high 10's to mid 11's, but they aren't fast enough to get alot of people's attention, lol.

It really puts a new light on the saying, "there's always somebody faster!"

That's when I say, lets runem and see. I'm looking for another 4-5 tenths that'll take 100+rwhp to get. I will run 9's with this car. If the new cam doesn't get the extra time, a 12psi pulley will. I'm headed out to the track tonight if the rain holds off, but all the street tire cars will limit my traction.

Thanks RSM! I was making 8psi, but with this new cam I'm probably down to 6 or 7psi. Again I'm having fuel issues. Wed. I made a 10.6 pass @ 124mph with 2 tenths lost on the start and it was quite lean for most of the run. Once it gets the fuel it needs I see it doing a 10.2 @ 133mph. Then with 12psi boost I'm guessing a 9.7 @ 140mph, but I have no idea how I'm going to get more fuel to it yet.

The carb. is causing fuel problems. It's a holley 830cfm. I run a 67 jet in the front, which is good for normal driving. The rear jets are ones I drilled as big as I could, and I think come out to be comparable to a 130 size. I talked to a guy that does lots of blowthrough stuff, and he said basically the rear 2 barrels are supplying the fuel. He sells a hat that will let all 4 barrels put fuel to it, and should help quite a bit.

Man everyone with that type of car here in Tucson doesn't ever cruise anymore. There are a ton of 9-11 sec cars out here and most of them stick to the track (which is probably a good thing from a legal stand point) but it's no fun for me.

ehh hopefully the bottle will be on im sorting out some brake and cooling issues , and a little weight reduction, see how fast i can get it n/a then go with a nice 200 shot, as for the types of cars we have a couple 8 second turbo cars that drive around all the way to some 14 second HonDuhs, so its mixed but usually its the 10/11/12 second cars that go at it on the street, the faster guys go over to Long Island for the real stuff

Hey guys, I ended up getting the car running pretty decent last Sat. Pulled off 3 runs all in the 10.1's. Best was 10.103@135mph. It still could use a little more fuel, AFR was in the mid 12's. There's still some interior I could take out to help a 9 second run.

I did get that hat, and it seems to get more air to the motor. The problem with it though is that it goes so lean on the burnout that I can't even do one. It seemed to require more fuel at WOT and even cruising. I might be able to take off some time from the 60' cause it puffs out a black cloud at the start from too much accelerator pump, and I know it can do 60's in the 1.4's. My previous best of 10.4 was with 8lbs boost and a hyd. roller cam 246/254 @.050 .558/.558 112lsa that I took to 7000rpm. The 10.1 was made with 6.5-7psi and a solid roller cam 264/271 @.050 .626/.626 lift (.024 lash) 114lsa reving to 7900rpm. There's no other differences. I'm looking into switching over to sequential fuel injection though. That will let me run the other hat, and up the boost to 12lbs or so while getting rid of this stupid carb. I might try to run the small pulley with the carb for a few passes just to see if it really needs all that much more fuel. I'm now running 66 primary jets and 110 secondaries with drilled power valve restrictors that I may be able to drill out more along with the 130 jets.

These wheels are better than I expected. They're the Summit street stars. Seems like they have a clear coat on them cause they haven't dulled at all, and I've never polished them. I do still drive it on the street from time to time. I just don't all that often because I have to put the caps on the cut-outs and either swap to street tires or wear out the drag radials more than I care to.

yeah I'm on that site although I haven't been to it in months. I agree with you about the track conditions. You just have to keep going until they get it right. There've been nights when I leave after 2-3 runs because I just can't hook and I'd be stuck in the 13's all night. Thats why I was complaining about no one ever cruising.

Edit: also the link to my cardomain page also has most of my pics, but I assumed that you had already checked that one out.
