Raced an 87ish Monte Carlo

On Saturday night we were all hanging out at a local cruise night and a few of our friends showed up. One of my friend's buddies just got his 1987 (guessing) Monte Carlo on the road and they were looking to test it out. I said I'd run him to give him an idea of where he stood. I just closed the Borla cutout (all the way), and reinstalled the highflow cats so I think I'm down a little power, but probably still over 400 to the wheels. The Monte Carlo had a built 355 in it. Trick Flow heads, big cam (lift in the .570 range), built turbo 350 trans, 3.73's out back, 3000 stall. The only thing is that he only had street tires. I told him that we could run from a 10mph roll because he was just testing his car and we both new it would never hook from a stop. He said no, he wanted to run from a stop, so that's what we did.
We went out to the spot and BSM was behind us to beep and start the race. I didn't bother doing a burnout because I had no reason to launch hard. I heard the three honks and started very slowly creeping forward. I was going real slow because he was spinning and I was trying to get an evenish race to see how fast his car was. Just when it looked like he was getting traction I hit it and took off. I pulled away real good and didn't bother powershifting or anything. I people watching said I beat him by at least 5 cars to the end of the 1/4 mile. He said he lost traction again when he hit second and people watching said he was all over the road off the launch.
Definitely should be a fast car once it's dialed in with some tires. He said he's hoping for 370 to the wheels, but with an auto it might be pretty hard to get that much. We'll see. Once he gets some slicks, we're gonna run them again and see how we stand.
Nothing amazing, but it was fun and he was a real cool guy. -- Red 2002 Camaro Z28

It was a fine time indeed. WHen RSM ment all over the road, he ment the other driver almost fish tailed into the guardrail. -- '94 Black Z28, 383 LT1 Breaking 11's SOON!
