what up guys? i've had this car for a while now but i've never taken it to the track. i've had chances to take it but i know that i will embaras myself. late reaction time, jump the light or spining my tires. i just don't want to look like an idiot. any tips for first timers? one guy told me that if you drop the tire pressure down a little, it would help you off the line. is that safe doing 90-100 down the line? the other thing i was wondering about is the burnout box. why is there water in the box? wouldn't wet tires give you less traction? these are all probly stupid questions but i would rather know now than get laughed at at the track. -- Life is more fun when your topless

Ok I'm pretty new to this too so here's my advice to you and some answers for your questions. First off don't worry about embarassing yourself because the only way you are gonna improve is with practice. Even the best drivers in the world jump the light and spin their tires, that stuff is going to happen to you and anyone else who's ever driven a car down a track. Next is the tire pressure idea, I'm not sure if it helps out a whole lot if you're using street tires but I know that it can help if you are using slicks. This also brings me to the answer for your question about the water, it is there for guys who are running slicks (really sticky tires with no tread so they get maximum contact patch) it basically cleans the non-treaded (is that even a word??) tires. If you are running street tires with read do not go through the water drive around it and do a small burn out after it. Thats all the advice I can give, so go have fun. --

Don't worry. I have an LT1 and one of the first times I went to the track I cut a 14.7. That's embarassing for a car that is supposed to do 13.9 for 14.1, but I just shrug it off. You see guys with fast cars who can't drive all the time. . . the most important thing to remember is that it's all about having fun! Just get out there and blast--on my slowest runs it's ALWAYS been a blast! --

Definitally practice and don't worry about messing up. We all mess up sometimes. Don't go through the water box your on street tires or drag radials. Reaction time doesn't affect you're time. Good luck and let us know how you do.
What are you're mods?

ok I didn't read previous replies so here's my list
-lower tire pressure a little more every run until you find a good 60' with a decent trap -drive around the water box and back into it -burn out until you start to see smoke (street tires only) -I don't care what anyone says, burnouts and experimenting with tire pressure work with any type of tire -brake stall until you feel the tires begin to move then hold that rpm (if you're an auto) -jump on the last yellow light -have fun --

thanks for the tips. i hope to get out to the track in a week or two. all depends on whether or not the walmart gods deam me worthy of the days off. you never know with that place. i figure i will try the box out a couple of times and then not a couple of times and see what works best for me. as far as i know i pay one charge and race as many times as i am able to. hopefully i can get the hang of it quickly. i know everyone here said that everyone makes mistakes and that is what practice if for, but would rather not as much as possible. screaminmachine, you asked about mods. i just got this one a couple of months ago, so i've not done anything to it yet. when i got it, it already had a jet chip, new accel injuctors, k&ns, no cat and an off brand flowmaster type muffler. the best thing, i think, about my car is that the guy that owned it before me never worked on it himself. he only took it gm dealership for repair and maintenace. it runs like it is fresh of the showroom floor. to me, that is worth alot. my iroc that got totaled was so rigged up it was crazy. this is my fourth camaro and i can definutly say that it is by far the smothest fastest running one i've had or riden in. so not many mods, just a great running car. thanks again for the tips! later! -- "Cough." "Look over here." "Excuse me, Veronica." "Yes, what is it Brick?" "I would like to extend to you, an invitation to the pants party." "Excuse me?" "The party, the pants, with the pants, party with pants?" "Brick, are you saying that there is a party in your pants and that I'm invited?" "That's it!"
