My friend and I were cruising tonight and we came up on a 1996 Mustang GT. It had a huge exhaust and was pretty loud. We caught a light next to each other and went on green. I babied it out of the whole and started spinning bad in first while he pulled away. I short-shifted second and continued spinning while he kept pulling away. Having had enough of that, I short-shifted third and stopped his pull almost instantly. By that time he was probably about 2-3 cars ahead of me. As the rpm's came up in third I started pulling hard on him and by the top of third I was pulling next to him when he hit the brakes.
We stopped at a light and he said to get going about 35 mph and run it again. I suggested instead that we go onto the highway and run it. He agreed and we followed him up. He was ahead and I was cruising up to him in 6th gear. I was about a car behind and he hit it early. I quickly downshifted to 3rd and hit it and by about 110mph I was pulling next to him again when he hit the brakes.
I was getting a bit annoyed by now, but we followed him off the highway and into a gas station. We got out and the first thing out of his mouth was, "Does that thing have a supercharger?". I laughed and told him no, it had bolt-ons and a cam. I asked what his had and he said it he had a supercharger and exhaust and that it was an automatic. He was a younger guy and I could tell he hadn't been on the racing scene very long, lol. I asked him if he wanted to go up onto the highway again and run it once more. He quickly agreed and we headed out. My friend and I were laughing knowing I was going to smash him bad.
We got next to each other going about 35mph. I put it in second gear and gave him the jump and then hit it. I instantly started pulling him and by 90 mph I was a few cars in front of him easy. We lined up one last time going about 70mph and I gave him the jump again and instantly started pulling. This time I we took it right out to about 125mph and I had many cars on him bye the end. We got next to each other at a light after and he was like, "Man, that thing's fast!" and then he turned off the road, lol.
Overall, I'm totally happy with my car's performance, but I'll be ordering some drag radials on Monday because my stock tires are pretty much useless, lol. -- Red 2002 Camaro Z28 M6 with Hurst shifter, T-tops, Leather, 12 CD Changer; Ram Air Scoop, SLP Lid, K&N Filter, Smooth Bellow, Borla Exhaust, Dynatech Long Tube Headers, Off Road Pipes, BMR Adjustable Torque Arm, BMR Rear Lower Control Arms, Nitto Drag Radials, 3.73 gears, FAST 78mm TB, SPEC 3 Clutch, Pro 5.0 Shifter; new time: 12.51 @ 114.2 mph, 1.82 60'; new mods: ESP1 cam, Comp springs, TR Pushrods; Dyno: 420 RWHP, 374 RWTQ

nice kill! I was just watching a show on tv and they had a 96 stang on there, they put a vortech charger on it and it already had a full exhuast setup and it still only made 286 at the wheels. good kill, but like he said, those cars are pigs, they take a lot of gas and move very slow. he would have lost to an almost stock ls1, so i can only imagin what the race would have been like if you could get that beasts power to the ground. -- '95 Trans Am auto with flowmasters and a 160 therm.

yeah RSM, I need to update my signature.
My WS6 engine is currently out of my car. Selling it to my buddy, and I am building a blower motor.
355, decked block, forged dish pistons, AFR heads, blower cam, ported intake, alky injection, big injectors, Vortech V-1 S-trim (I am going to pulley it to about 9psi) and possibly a 50-75 shot.
I had the Vortech on the stock block (with a hotcam), but I kept blowing head gaskets. I have all the parts ready for the rebuild except the lifters, pushrods, and rocker arms. --

LOL, yeah it was pretty bad. I think he thought he had a chance after the first race because I didn't catch him until late, but he had no clue how bad I spun and how low I had to shift it to get traction back. After the third and fourth races he didn't really want to talk anymore, lol.
Not really the best kill, but I'll take it for my first. Next weekend I'm supposed to race a 1996 Trans Am with a 383 in it. We'll see what happens then. I'm ordering my drag radials tomorrow.
ryguy_45832, I'm not running the brackets, but BSM is with his setup. He'd know where to get them. Maybe try Thunder Racing? -- Red 2002 Camaro Z28

We're racing on the street. I just hope he shows up. A couple years ago he had a 6-speed 1993 TA with CAI and Borla and a 100 shot and I raced him with my 1993 auto TA with bolt-ons. He said he'd only race me from a roll, but he never mentioned the nitrous when I asked his mods. He also tried to race for money but I turned him down on the money part. He beat me pretty good and I knew something was up and called him on it and he finally admitted the nitrous. Then I challenged him again from a stop, but he wouldn't do it
As long as he's being up front about his mods then it should be a good race. If he asks mine then I'll tell him, but I'm telling him it dynoed 370. I figure that's fair considering what he pulled last time and I won't be asking to race for money. Also, I ordered my drag radials and should definitally have them on by then as long as they come in. -- Red 2002 Camaro Z28

I saw that car coming up the pike after you guys left. I said to Aaron and Jerry that it was SCed and both told me no... but alas the Mustang guy was right. The car was a dark colored vert with an auto right???
I would assume any average SCed 96-98 GT would get absolutely walked by you, and even a newer one with just an SC would most likely as well.
Nothing wrong with a few friendly races, and yes LS1s are badass cars, but then again I own a Mustang because when it comes to power and speed in an inexpensive older car (the only way Id afford it) the Fbody doesnt lend a good option and the 5.0 is the way to go! --

no doubt, the 2v mustang motor that came out in the 4.6 is a horriable platform. They dont really even respond that well to mods, rated at 265 hp and the sc ones running safe boost make only 330-370 rwhp. -- '95 Trans Am auto with flowmasters and a 160 therm. best 1/4 time 13.702

Fastest 2V I have ever seen was this kid we raced with. He went 13.3 @ 10x one or two times, all motor. Car had a stock motor, stock headers, and was using all the bolt ons, exhaust, some suspension, weight removed, gears and some good driving. He also sprayed the car but I was never there for that and this was a long time ago (4-5 years). Im pretty sure that cars gone, but it was the fastest non PI headed car I have seen all motor! --

PI and non PI is the designation between the 96-98 4.6s (non PI) and the 99+ 4.6s (PI). The PI heads flowed a lot better, and when put on a non PI motor bumped compression a good bit and make good power! --
