93 Corrado VR6(not a race)

Posted By: hurley_21_07 On: 03-16-2010 @ 00:48:43         Reply | Edit
Anyone ever run one of these?

Kid I know has one and claims 240hp, 2nd gear to 90, pegging the 140mph speedo real quick blah blah.

Anyone with experience with one of these?

Those things can be modded pretty easily and effectively. They had something like 170 hp, V6, DOHC. A guy from my school had one, it was quick. It whooped up on my old 3.4, but that's no
suprise. The VR6 is considered the best VW engine, performance and reliability wise. If its modded, watch out. Even stock, I'd say probably mid-high 15's.

2nd gear 90 is BS. if it's a 5 speed its probably ratioed a lot like mine. my 2nd gear goes to 78, with 5th gear topping out at about 185. i really doubt the corrado is geared for 200 mph fromt he factory

I don't think that 170 HP is enough to get that car up to 185 MPH

i know that. i was referring to that the gears are even longer then my car... so about 200 mph. im sure they are MAYBE geared to only 150 or so at best.

170 horses is not enough to get to 200. hell 300 at the wheels for me isnt enough for 185.

i bet the thing tops out at 140 due to no more power

If you guys looked on a car stat website or something you probably only found the G60. I know htat's all I could find.

He says it came with 240 stock.

I figured it was pretty unlikely for 90 in second unless he had loooong ass gears.

I can't understand why they arent on stat websites. When I looked on forums there were responses saying from low 14's mid 14's mid 15's etc.

I wanna race him either way, I just don't believe it'll peg 140 "real quick" like he says.

Yup I am tending to think he is full of shit. He's a nice guy though.

I checked up on other VR6's from 10 years newer and they are still a second slower than my car. Granted it could be fast but he has little to nothing done but higher rev limit.

I asked a random VR6 owner on Autotrader.

He said the Vr6 was a 2.8 Liter 178hp engine.

My friend says his is a 2.9....doubt it.

Corrado SLC is what your friend has, 178 horsepower, and they are awesome autocross cars. Displacement is 2.8 and they are quick little cars, they only weigh like 3000 pounds.

Yeah I don't kno wwhy he tries to tell me his motor is different. Two motors were available in that car. I found out that yeah ^^^ the SLC has the VR6.

I'll race him and probably win to the 1/4 mile. I know he'll spin too.

Cocky lying lil chump.

I own a 94 vw corrado and a 95 vw gti golf
to clear the air and make right here are the facts
#1 12 valve vr6s have 2 dispalcements
2.8l (usa canada ect..)
2.9l ( euro)
#2 12 valve vr6s have 174bph golf, jetta and passat and 179 in the corrado

#3 the a2a transmission has the same gear ratios but differant final drives (dont ask me numbers)
the higher of the two are as such at redline (6700 rpm)
1st 62 kph
2nd 110 kph
3rd 161 kph
4th 230ish kph
5th fast governer hit at an estimated 155 Mph at 5500 rpm
stock speedos have errors in them so +/- 10 mph but should be damn close
#4 the vr6 inturnals are good for about 600-700hp plus and LOTS of parts out there for them but there costley
I used to own a 1990 iroc with a 305 tpi 5 speed in mint condtion and the golf and corrado will walk away from it in a heart beat (sorry guys)
for those of you whom havent drivin one should try it!
(come to the darkside luke)

STFU guys! IROCs are NOT that slow! I hit a 14.9 @ 92 w/ a basically stock 305 TPI. THe later ones (91-92) have seen some 14.7s but mostly high 14s.

Granted, the earlier ones were a lil slower (mid 15s, low 15s), but I'd think they could still take a Corrado. I know I took one. . . ?

Depends on stock/mods, etc. . . but don't dog the 'ROC!

I have owned both and the corrado is faster if you have one with the vr6 and the lsd and 5 speed
