5.0 vs SSEi

Posted By: mrcrazyhimself On: 03-18-2010 @ 12:24:44         Reply | Edit
If anyone has seen my past couple posts, im real close to getting a 93 mustang lx 5.0 auto, 3.73 gears, new dual exhaust and intake, hurst shifter, rebuilt engine and trans. The king of our school parking lot is a SSei bonnieville. Should i be able to take him with that 5.0? Im assuming so cuz stock the stang is 235 and he's 240 with only an intake upgrade...I also think theres a 95+ turbo talon, maybe not even turbo. and a 99+ v6 mustang. im assuming id be able to take them all. I dont even no wat times i may clock in, atleast 14's??

Yes, you should beat him.

On a side note, its kinda sad when the parking lot king is a Luxo-cruiser like an SSEi. If the Talon is indeed turbo and the guy knows how to mod it, he would be the fastest imo.

at my school there were 2 Mustang GT's, 2 LS1 Z28's and one LT1 Z28. i'm pretty sure there were 3 or 4 TPI F-bodies there too. the year before some kid drove a really nice corvair. with the exception of those, probably about a dozen lifted trucks and a few ricers, the other 700 people in my class drove cavaliers, neons, other random boring things and a few 6 cylinder f-bodies

but i agree assuming the turbo talon driver either doesn't have money to mod it or doesn't know how to you'll probably be ok

Look, I am not even in HS anymore. This past Sunday I was going to pickup dinner in my 2000 Hyundai... the camaro as most would know is apart. The weather was decent, no snow on the ground. I saw a Black 350z. I like they way they look, nice cruiser.

Well I saw the passangers, anywhere between 16-21ish... All I know is no way in hell could they afford that car with their own money. They needed help in some form or manner. OR they just borrowed/was given the car. Of course he had a passanger who is all excited he can be in a car he will never own...

Just annoyed me a little.

Its cuz we are who we are, we dont need to fool ourselves by acting like someone were not. I cnt stand phony ppl...

You can get them considerably faster with a pulley mod, but in stock form they fall short to a properly running '93 5.0lx

A kid in my high school had a brand new white T/A WS6 in '01. I think he had it for about a month and hit a deer going 80mph. After about a year or so he lost his license due to the tickets he had with the car. What an ass getter that car was though when it was brand new. It's pretty cool that even though they're getting older now, most women still love the f-body.; )

In HS my car was probably one of the fastest, until my friend got his blown 306 Mustang (put down 432 on a Mustang dyno). Now I had better track times, but his car would have eaten mine with the right driver!

Your mustang has potential, but the auto is not the way to go unless you plan to spend decent $$! I would say youd run mid to high 14s with those mods, depending on a lot of things.

Yea, i know, i would rather have manual but the thing is 1. its rare enuff to find a decent sports car around here in good shape, 2. Hard enuff to find one in a lower price range. 3. and my parents are real gay about the manual, if for some reason they needed to drive it, they couldnt'' I didnt no auto vs manual was a HUGE difference. I kno u have more control over your car but cant you put it on the dyno and see where the shift points are around and just program it? I rly am a newbie. Auto doesnt bother me, Mid 14's don't bother me. For a first car, and a good running project, a car like this is sorta wat i need. Plus they rly seem to hold their value around here like alot of the older sports cars, esspecially with this new muscle car era coming around again...

The man issue is with smaller displacement motors is just that LACK OF DISPLACEMENT, hence torque in the lower rpms are less, thus you must raise up the launch RPM to get the car going. i.e. Torque multiplaction.

In a manual its easy to push the clutch in, raise the rpms and dump it, where you could increase your stall converter but then your always stuck having to wind the motor up to a certain extent. But then the auto will always be consistant. Its a trade off.

ahh ok, ive never raced a manual trans car be4, like some ppl i talk to act like its a super big advantage, like manual will shave off a second on your 1/4 mile time or somethin. im stlil learnin about this stuff...so any help on the auto vs manual subject is helpful, along with anything else abuot modding this car to be a ''fast'' car

Its a lot of reasons for the auto sucking over the manual. The manual has MUCH better gear ratios, less power loss through the drivetrain, and allows you to shift the car exactly how and where you want it! The auto is going to need a good shift kit (really good) and a converter to even be close to a 5-speed.

I had a 2600 converter, and drag radials, and my car ran 14.2s. I put the stick in, without having ever driven one for much time (had a week under my belt) I ran 13.9 with a good 2 more mph. This was probably granny shifting, and launching horribly!

Now my car runs much better times, and feels like stock. With an auto Id have to have a big converter, probably a manual VB, and steeper gears to run this number, and that would KILL my streetability!

see, your looking from your view point. This car WILL, i mean WILL be used for a year. its in great shape, looks good and prob can be sold for wat i buy it for.
$1500 no rust. I need a commuter. Now, over the next year, i will be working lets say 3 jobs, well 3 over the summer.
i have a town job, my regular guitar store job which hopefully i will begin teachin music= $16, and my friends landscaping and escavating business.
I would rather driving something that is in great shape and obvious not raced and abused, then spend $2500 on a 3rd gen camaro from about here that has obv been beat to shit with 120k on the clock. I have to bum rides to work to get to work from school.
Come on, i kno its slow but if u had the choice with $2000 to spend and u NEEDED somethin, would u rather drive around in a 90 dark blue shiny mustang or some beatup tempo or rust bucket.
for the money, it's wat i can afford, i think some of u can relate to the situation...
Now that ive put u all to with my 18 year old newbie whinning, which i realize i am, im gunna go cuz im too poor to get anything with some beef....

When I was 18 I had a 5.0 running 12s, and a Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited... HEHE, I also worked my a$$ off to get them!

If I had $2000 and was in the market, I really think Id get something 4cyl, 5-speed, and just save. My 4banger gets about 26-30 mpg on the highway and 20-24 in town, which isnt bad, but a comparable 4cyl car will probably get 30 in town and up near 40 on the highway which is nice for some money saving!

Granted I can see what you mean, I dont know about NOT having something nice looking to drive, I mean I had a 5.0 as my first car and havent been without it from the time I got my license till now! If you want the 4cyl, go for it, but coming from me, its slower than a comparable 4cyl, will get worse mileage (its a heavy car) but will look better and make you feel better! I actually enjoy having mine, especially with the 16" pony rims on it, and with it all waxed up and looking good!

Do

Not

Buy

A

4 Banger

Mustang.

When you think about it or look at it...remember it has 88hp, probably less over the years. I would buy a Neon before that.

The newer ones had more than 88. Mine was rated at 105 (I think) but put that in a 3000 lb car and your talking slow! Mines about as fast as you can get (5-speed, more power, in a lower optioned hatch) and its still slow!
