Raced that Monte Carlo SS

Posted By: hurley_21_07 On: 03-19-2010 @ 01:24:55         Reply | Edit
I went into the race thinking I had it for sure. I had less weight, more power, and RWD....

And did it ever pay off.

Recap of my night:

After school I dropped off my gf at her house. I then went home. Later on I went to my gf's hosue again and hung out there for a while...I then decided to go to town to find the guy who has the Monte Carlo SS because we were supposed to race tonight. I have about 1/4 tank of gas...I waited to fill it until after the race...well I never found him and didnt have a charged cell phjone with me to call him. So I fill up my gas FULL and go home.
When I get on here my gf tells me he just called her looking for me. So after about a SECOND of wodnering if I shoudl bother going back at 10:30 I did. I have a full tank of gas now and was kidn of upset about that.

THE RACE:
I get to our meeting spot..I tell him to pop the hood to make sure it wasn't supercharged..he wasnt exactly sure because it was his moms car, all stock. We wait to make sure NO traffic is coming down teh road(about a mile visibility.)..so we pull out and get to the spot where we race to a bridge ROUGHLY 1/4 mile away.
I am honking...brake stand to about 1400-1500rpms...he is going from a dead stop no "launch". Third honk and I giver hell and pull immediately off the line. I heard him chirping off the line but he caught after a second if even that.
Going up to 60 I pulled, and pulled. When I felt the car shift when it always does at 75 he was in my rearview...I am GUESSING 2 no more than 3 cars back.

Summary...
Over the past week or two him and his friends kind of "implied" the SS was gonna eat me alive. One of my friends who rags on my car said I would get killed. Well I raced him with a full tank of gas and with the shifter in OD(It does help with shift points).

2-3 Cars on him by about 90.

I am proud of Cammie.

When I started reading this post I was wondering who the fukk would think a Monte SS (Even a supercharged one) could beat a 97' Camaro.

I totally forgot that some people on here have V6 cars.

But anyways, glad to see you beat him.

Yeah, we get forgotten about, but I suppose thats to be expected. Not as many people who own V6's are into modding when compared to the V8's by far.

And good kill, by the way. Glad to see the sixxer's holdin it down.

Very good kill, but you were right to expect to win. My stock Grand Prix GT 3.8 ran a best of 15.58. From what I've seen a stock 3.8 Fbody runs around low 15's, and you're not stock.

That thing should really fly after you do those "winter mods" Keep us posted on the results and keep those kills coming.

RSM: I saw in another post you mentioned racing at e-town...do you CT guys really come all the way down to Jersey to do runs at e-town? I live 5 minutes away and have never ran there...does that make me ungrateful? (lol)

i too assumed you had an 8. i thought u just had stupid friends for thinking u were gonna get beat.

no offense to anyone, but why did they bother putting a 6 in such a nice car? its not like theres alot of girls driving them like there are mustangs.

8angrypistons, yeah I make the trip down to E-town a couple times a year. Usually I run up at Lebanon, but E-town is so much nicer. The only problem is that it's an hour farther away then Lebanon is.

This winter sometime a couple of us are gonna make a trip to Atco (seeing as how they are the only track open in the winter, lol). We'll be meeting a couple other members down there when we do. You should definitally meet us there when we go!

I'm definitely down...all you gotta do is 1) meet later than my clutch break-in period (installing it this monday) and 2) let me know the exact date at mightymightyz28@optonline.net

That's all you have to do!

Even a GTP I would think you should be able to inch him out. Power would be against you, but you have the advantage with weight and RWD. Too bad you don't have an LS1, then you could beat anything including the space shuttle. (I heard they aren't very fast.)

I'll definitally let you know. It is gonna be later in the winter (probably around January). I have to fix up my trans and get a new clutch as well.

number 1, don't see him beating a stock GTP as his car is now. They run high 14's stock. The very best I've ever seen from a stock 3.8 fbody if 15.0, but they pulled some weight, pulled the belt and pulled the air filter. Average time are closer to 15.4-15.8. Once he gets his winter mods done then he'll be smacking stock GTP's around like nothing!

But If I end up buying an LS1 the proiject will be scrapped. If not really really slowed down. P&P would still be done probably though.

woo woo

good kill . . . i used to think all monte SS's were S/C . . . but I guess not . . . they S/C ones are pretty much like a GTP, no? Either way, yeah, you might have inched off on a S/C one . . .

GOOD KILL.

I know I can at least beat a SSEi. Those Bonnevilles are HEAVY. Hell the new V8 GXP's only run about 15.4. I should find one of those.

Yeah, the SSEI's are supercharged, but very heavy. I'd definitally see you smacking one of them. I did see an article once, where they tweaked an older one into the mid 14's with minor mods though.

The older ones were lighter though.

I wouldn't mind driving on at all though. Lots of buttons and are nice looking inside and out though!
