last night after i cleaned out my throttle body and my friend changed his oil in the ss we went on a cruise. we ended up going on a 2 lane road and no cars around. we stopped at a stop sign and lined up. we did the 1 2 3 go and took off, we peeled out across the intersection and we even about 30- 40 then he took off on me. we shut off around 80 mph and i was around car and a half length behind him. i think thats not bad for a stock t/a against a ss. next time we will race we will try from a roll and from a stop also. im hoping i get my 3.73 gear in my car soon i think that would help me alot because now my gears are too long.

Does either car have mods? Stock for stock it should be VERY close, unless one car isn't running right, or one is a factory freak.

his car the only mod that he has is the ram air intake for the ss hood scoop and his exhuast seems to be upgraded but he claims that all 97 ss had that exhaust (its the one with the two outlets form the muffler going to one side so form the back it looks as if he had 2 muffler tips on the left side). as for my car i have an airfoil and 160 thermostat and the previous owner of my car changed the pipe form the y pipe to the muffler to a 3 inch and i think my muffler is not stock but i might be wrong.

Most SS guys think the factory SS is a joke as far are the air induction goes. I have looked at one and i can agree that can't flow for shit. He could have 342s and you may have 273s. I really don't see how those to would be that much diffrent. Unless his is in great shape and yours is tired.

First off, if the gears are stock they are probably 3.23 (I could be wrong on this one)

Far as the gas you are using! What its like $0.20 more per gallon from 87 to 91. You have a 15.3gl tank. So even if you run your tank dry thats only another $3.06 to fill up.

we checked the codes and mine said gu2 which is 2.73 and his code said gu5 which is 3.23 which your right pongox11 its not 3.42 (my bad on that one) and the gas ya i can be more not cheap about it now and still put in 93 octane. its just im 17 and right now i dont have a job so ya low on cash

that is the difference between yalls cars is the gears. I'd say a car and a half is about right for the difference between 2.73s and 3.23's.

Man i could not run 87 in my car. I just don't have the nuts to run a 10 to 1 motor on 87. I know it will cut timing and that is more then likly how you lost.

Youre risking detonation by putting 87 in. Your computer can only compensate for so much then BOOM. BTW good races.
