TRANSMISSION TRANSPLANT

Posted By: BadBowShow87 On: 03-14-2010 @ 23:44:09         Reply | Edit
I have placed this question in the 3rd gen section and still waiting for an answer there...so I figured that I would try here. I have a 1987 Z-28 with the T.P.I set-up. I want to drop in a turbo 350 tranny. Will the T.V.(kick down) cable from the T350 work with the T.P.I or not? Which vehicle or which manufacture can I get one that works? THANKS FOR THE INFO! HAPPY HOT-RODDIN!

why put in a turbo 350 instead of a turbo 400?

"No way dude...i saw an LS1 fight godzilla and the LS1 beat godzilla and it looked in the air and was like what do you think of that god? And god was like bring it bitch, so they fought and the LS1 beat god and now the LS1 is god because its the greatest thing ever"
what I once thought was, is now no more.

the TH-400 is a stronger trans but if you are going stock or a modified motor i would recomend the TH-350. thats what i have in my 55 chevy and i am pushing right at 400 HP and it gives me no problems. the TH-400 also takes more power away from your motor to spin that thing. The stock kickdown cable is probley going to be to short to reach the butterfly of the throttle body (it was a stretch to get the cable to work on my dual plane intake on my 55). you might have to go with a electronic kickdown from Lokar.

I've see Lokar's products and its $75 bucks for the kick down cable. I might just say screw it and op for the manual valve body, or just make an extension for the cable itself. I got $1200 bucks wrapped up into this tranny, its been built to handle 600 horse. Besides, TH400's are too damn big. Thanks for the info. I was beginning to wonder if my question would fall onto deaf ears.

manual valve bodies are very kool. if u have 600 HP out of a small block i am assuming u have a cam bigger then me and probley wont be producing enough vacaum to shift the thing. If you go the manual valve body rode i would recomend a Hughes product I have 1 of those n my race car and its awesome.

A 400 is not that phisically large. I just put mine in my 94 and had no clearance issues at all. In fact, it fits just about as well as the 4L60E did. I also used a standard dipstick tube, and I heard plenty of people say that it wouldn't be possible. I realise that you have a 3rd gen, but I gotta believe that it would fit just as well in a 3rd gen as it does in my 4th gen. Just my .02 cents.
