1997 Formula LT4 Firehawk against Stock WS6 02 TA.

Car is a 1997 true LT4 Firehawk M6, this car hauls for a stock unmodified car. Instead of "ram air" it says "330 hp" My friends 02 WS6 M6 says he can still beat it. I have rode in both and the LT4 pulls harder all through the RPM range. The Firehawk has 90k on it. LS1's, I think it will be a good race since both are M6's. If the Firehawk gets out in front from the start. I don't think the LS1 will be able to catch it. But its anybody race with a manual. This firehawk has some punch!
The guy who owns the the Firehawk says he can barely pull on a 03 Cobra from a 40 mph roll on to about 120. Then they both let off. He said he beats stock LS1 vettes on the street. Sometimes they are a close race and others he walks away.
He said that he raced a Z06 (405Hp) and the guy pulled him by a half a car to 100.
Anybody know the specs of the LT4 Firehawk in the 1/4. Topend they are over 160mph. I had no idea that a LT4 ran this good. What do you think? -- 1979 TA 400,4-speed,Qjet,Performer intake,6X4 heads, CC268H cam, Hooker Super Comp 1 3/4 Long tube headers,3.73's

Hmmmm, seems kinda scetchy IMO. LT4's are great engines, but IMO they were between the LT1 and LS1. Maybe he's got a freak or something. All I can really say is wait for the race outcome for the real answer. -- '98 Trans Am WS6 M6 Whisper Lid | K&N Air Filter | FRA | Descreened MAF | !Baffles | B&M Ripper Shifter | !CAGS | SLP LoudMouth Catback | Cross-Drilled/Slotted Rotors F/R | PBR/Axxis Brake Pads F/R...

From what I have seen a true LT4 should walk a stock LS1 pretty easily (not destroy, but they will definitely pull). But like you said with a manual in cars with similar power it is a drivers race so let it happen and wait for the outcome. -- Creator of the Largest (Thread was finally locked at 430+ replies, 10,400+ views ) Fastest Growing (Up for 5-6 days) and Furthest reaching Thread (spread to over 67 other known websites) EVER posted on Fbody.com.

Car for car, I'd say he'd be even at best with an LS1. I doubt an LT4 fbody would trap better than 106mph and we all know of LS1 doing better than that (however, there are ones doing worse as well although they are usually auto's). I'd say on average it'd be pretty even.
I find it hard to beleive that a stock LT4 fbody could pull on an 03 Cobra from any kind of roll (360 RWHP anyone?). I'd believe he beat/tied the Vette's if most of the races were from a stop. The Z06 I think would have beaten him be more unless it was from a stop and he got out in front. I've seen a Z06 trap 118mph and I know for a fact that that's enough to put him under...unless his car isn't really stock. -- Red 2002 Camaro Z28

LT4's dyno right about the same as an average LS1
a few HP/TQ less, with this fact and manual transmissions = drivers race.
My old man's LT4 Vette has a lot of low end torque. Even though it has balls it won't hang with a well driven 03 Cobra especially from a roll. My TTA eats him for breakfast, especially from a roll. -- 89 TA 3.8 LC2

LT4's dyno in between 300-310 rwhp and about 320 rwtq, plus they have great top end (horsepower peak at 5800 rpm) but I doubt they can hang with Cobra's. I'll believe everything else. Should be a very close race.

i'd call BS on the cobra pulling and even on the ls1 vette races...
I think he'd also have interesting time with 01-02 ls1's...
The only c5 I ever race in my LT1 I beat, and I only had headers, exhaust and a couple bolt ons at the time... that doesn't mean I had a faster car, nor that I could do it again... it just means i happened to pull that one out of my ass...

It's possible for the Vettes to lose. They seem to be finicky cars. I've seen some great times out of them, but also some crappy times. I think the independant rear may have something to do with it. -- Red 2002 Camaro Z28

I do beleive the guy with the firehawk barely pulling a 03 Cobra Everyone acts like the 03 Cobra is a god. I have alot of respect for them, and with a pulley upgrade they are wicked fast. Remember anything is possible in a street race. I stayed ahead of a 2002 LS1 M6 car a couple years ago from a 60 mph roll on with my LT1, we raced to 100 and I had him by a half a car. Maybe he had the car in the wrong gear. He was surprised and so was I. All I can say it happened. I have lost my share of races to LS1's and also won my share with my 95 LT1.
I rode in this 97 LT4 Firehawk and it pulls like there is no tomorrow. I have also rode in the 02 Ws6 TA and it pulls damn good, but the LT4 feels stronger. The race should happen this weekend, if the weather permits. -- 1979 TA 400,4-speed,Qjet,Performer intake,6X4 heads, CC268H cam, Hooker Super Comp 1 3/4 Long tube headers,3.73's

Lt4 is GM's LT1 Hot Rod engine. They are the only second generation Chevy small block heads with increased hieght on the intake runners, so no your carbureted intake will not fit on them. They will only work with the special LT4 intake with FI. They also came with a special high lift cam, and headers, and a bigger throttle body. GM racing still sells the complete lit for your LT1 for about $2500.00

What everyone seems to be leaving out is the driver. It does make a difference. A Cobra with a pump, (supercharger) that is set up right can run in the elevens, but I saw one get beat with an LS1 Camaro with two pumps, and a lot of other mods like catback, heads, cam, throttle body, ect.
