Anybody here have a colorado?

I went looking for a DD and I went looking for a colorado with all these GM employee discount ads.
The best they could do for a 08 4x4 5cylinder was 20k. I thought that was a little much for the smallest truck chevy has to offer.
Anybody have any thoughts/opinions on these?

I bought an 05 a couple of years ago and have really enjoyed it alot more than I had thought. Mine is a ZQ8 Crew Cab, which was the 2wd sport model. I currently have around 44K miles on it and the only problem I have had was with the O2 sensor going out under warrenty. The one you found for 20K is probably not a bad price if it is an extended or crew cab. Sticker on mine was around 25K new.

I don't, but my aunt does and I have dealt with it several times. IIRC '06 regular cab, 4wd, manual. Nice little truck that does a good job getting out of her driveway (which is no treat even in my K1500). She had one minor problem that was fixed under warranty but I couldn't tell you what it was. It also had some pretty big repairs from when she was T-boned by a Jag. Rides like new afterward, not sure how much of that was the mechanics and how much is the build of the truck. I think she paid 17k.
It might be worth waiting for next years model to come out and look for an 08 then, but I am not sure. Just a thought. --

That's a lot of money to spend on a compact truck. I would be looking at something used. You can get a nice diesel truck for 15k. There is a lot better things out there for <20k --

Unfortunately today, 20K for a new anything isn't really that much. You can't get a small econo car with no options for much less than that. It's all about what you want. The market has really turn against diesel trucks as well as large suvs, so the used market maybe your best bet. Only issue is you normally can't get the 0% financing and some of the warrenty has been used up. --

Back when I was shopping for my truck in 2005, I looked into the Colorado. It was a nice truck, but I knew I wanted either a big truck or a GTO
If Nissan or Toyota started making those tiny trucks from the 80's, I'd buy one. I had an 87 Nissan as my first vehicle and loved it. -- 2005 GMC 1500HD 6.0L, 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix 1991 Camaro - 24 Hours of LeMons race car. Pics: http://72.167.14.32/~jeremiah/24hoursoflemons/

I rock a crappy 96 Tacoma for my DD, I love it, I don't care if it gets hit or stolen or anything. It's kinda nice to not have to worry about someone breathing on your car wrong. On the other hand I'll taze you if you look at the camaro the wrong way.
Wow, that was way off topic. To answer your question, I almost bought one, took it home, drove it for a day, then realized I didn't want something new for a DD. That and I didn't like having the parking brake on the floor, 4 pedals is way too much for someone with size 15 feet.
Other than all that, good truck, it got about 23mpg (4banger, 5spd). --

The Colorado/Canyon got the worst reviews out of any compact truck.
Get a Silverado/Sierra - they're about the same price. --

True, but I've never purchased anything based on reviews. Basically I never see any American owned company get any decent reviews. Reviews tend to favor Honda and Toyota. --

Reviews also tend to favor advertising dollars. The more money a company puts into ad pages in a magazine, the greater the chance they'll fare well in reviews in said magazine. --

I remember one full size truck comparison they did years ago. It had the Chevy, Ford, Nissan, Toyota, and Dodge. The Nissan and Ford finished 1 and 2 even though they literally had nothing good to say about them. The Chevy and Dodge were 4th and 5th. The ONLY downside to the Chevy was that it had an out-dated interior, but did awesome in all the other comparisons. After reading that, I gave up on relying on ratings from magazines. -- 2005 GMC 1500HD 6.0L, 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix

i have never driven a colorado so im not sure. I would imagine its not to much different. I didnt buy new, mine is a 99.. The reason i got it over a chevy s10 (v6, 4x4 x-cab) was the fords were quite a bit cheaper. It just rolled 100k and i have nothing bad to say about it. -- Sold

Silverado/Sierra got top notch reviews in their class from every major magazine.
Colorado/Canyon got the worst reviews from every major magazine.
I fail to see how every magazine would come up with nearly identical reviews and yet have them on total opposite ends of the spectrum - it has nothing to do with advertising dollars.
(PS - Don't forget that Consumer Reports doesn't accept advertising or donations - so they cannot be accused of being partial to one or the other.) --

I subscribe to consumer reports myself and find them highly biased, but that's a different story. Magazine ad dollars vs. positive reviews is actually a pretty long-standing tradition these days, in most cases you only have to read the review to see it (but you believe what you want to, whatever floats your boat). --

I drive an 08 extended cab 4x4 for work daily and it's an OK truck at best. I wouldn't buy one for myself cuz I barely fit in the damn thing. Not terribly quick, not terribly good on gas, rather useless I suppose lol. --

I did extensive research prior to settling on an 08 Silverado.
Consumer Reports, Road & Track, Automobile Magazine, & Car & Driver all recommended (full size); Silverado/Sierra 1500 & 2500HD. They all dogged the Colorado/Canyon/H3 as worst in their class.
I fail to see how GM could give them enough money to push one model and trash another one (you would expect a neutral rating for the bad trucks if they were on the payroll).
Either way, if you want a truck that gets bad gas mileage, is too small, is too impractical, is cheaply made, and is underpowered - go with the Colorado/Canyon.
If you want to spend around the same to get a real, functional, top notch truck - get the Silverado/Sierra.
If you are dead set on a mini-pickup, do yourself a favor and get a Tacoma - much nicer than the Colorado/Canyon and it will still have resale value once you get tired of it. --

I suggest doing your own reviews, not depend on a magazine on what someone here thinks. If you like the look, feel, etc, then thats the truck for you. While my next truck probably won't be another colorado (even though I don't have anything bad to say about the truck), it won't be a Silverado either. I personally am not a fan of the new Silverado. I've never owned a Ford, but I actually prefer the looks and drive of the F150. But that's me. The tundra and tacoma have had major issues, which even though they do well in reviews, they don't hold up to the real world. One such evidence is the fact that they don't box there frames, while GM does on all trucks including colorado and canyon. Good luck with whatever you decide.
