My brother has a 1998 F150 with the 4.7 V8 and his AC compressor will not turn on. He said it ever since he has had the truck it will not turn on. I've told him it probably is shot and needs to be replaced, but he wants to argue and he's telling me its something else. Is is possible it could be something else going on or does the AC compressor just need to be replaced.
thanks -- It was my mother, she always used to say it was too much car for me to handle. I couldn't handle the V8.

you proubly mean the 4.6 v8 and there could be many reasons why this happens. most likely the freon is low and when the freon is low the compressor will not cut on. it could also be some kind of relay or switch. check the freon first and if its low add some and try to find a leak, maybe try stop leak. --

Yep.....Start with checking the refrigerant level. ( Pressure ) You can jumper the pressure switch on the acumulator to comfirm clutch engagement. Sounds like it's a low or leaky system. That system is closed, so it did have to go somewhere. Also , when you DO check the pressure it will show way high pressure without the compessor running, so I would suggest jumping it for a proper reading. Of course if it shows way low without it running you certainly have a leak somewhere. -- 00' Trans Am convertible, M6 ,K&N, Edelbrock exhaust. SLP Loudmouth coming soon.
