I hate wide screens

When you view a web page, how often do you scroll horizontally as opposed to down.... When you are typing a document, wouldn't it be nice to have it optimized so the document would take up your whole screen going vertically?
Wide screens shouldn't exist on monitors, if you are using them to watch a movie, go buy a TV. If they ARE to be used, they should be used this way:
|-| | | |_|
wide screens are just milking the HD fad and I can't stand it! I can't even FIND standard sized flat panels anymore.
And for the people that do graphics, I somewhat understand, but that is the only exception.
verticle screen real estate is 100% more usable than this horizontal nonsense

Just because you're a mule of society and use widescreen's doesn't mean I'm not adapting to the future. --

I'm a mule of society that enjoys high-resolution displays. The "HD fad" is completely badass. I take it you haven't played top of the line video games in 1080p yet?
Regarding computers, I use a laptop. It's not even a year old. I don't even know if the display is widescreen. If it is, I'm cool with it. If it's not...I'm cool with it.
Sacrificing the need to scroll sideways once in a while for a clearer, thinner, and better monitor? Sounds like a fair trade to me. -- '98 Firebird Formula

I get what you're saying man
I hate watching movies and not seeing the whole screen or if you do you get the black lines ANDDD even if you get a widescreen movie usually you still get the black bars on the top and bottom.. I mean wtf if its widescreen then make it fit a widescreen TV -- LS1 so easy even a caveman can do it

LMAO how do you comment on a rant about widescreens and computers if you dont even know if you are using a widescreen?!
Anyways, I have grown more accustomed to mine, however it is still pretty annoying. Especially since most web sites are just weird on it. Either everything is chilling in the middle, and there are fat borders on the sides--or the site is super wide. Not to mention you have to run a "Gigantor" resolution, so everything is teeny tiny. Mine is a 22.x" Samsung and I have to run 1680x1050 resolution--its pretty damn silly. -- Former ride: 531RWHP/477RWTQ

i just went from a 19" flat panel to 22" WS and LOVE IT.
i watch more movies and tv shows on it than i do on the TV and it doesn't bother me at all surfing the web and doing whatever else.
I also run 1680x1050 on HDMI, it looks great.
I run 1280x800 on my 13.3" WS Laptop and don't find that bad either. -- http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2210351 94 Formula A4

Because I'm argumentative, that's why.
And I generally do like widescreens. I don't see how the "borders" are that big of a deal. I'm running 1440x900 resolution and things aren't even remotely teeny tiny. I remember back in the day not wanting to move "up" to 800x600 because I thought it made everything look way too small. Technology progresses. Shit gets smaller and more defined. That's the way it works.
Websites and software will eventually change to support the "widescreen effect", just like TV services and games are moving to HD and 16:9 feeds for HDTVs. -- '98 Firebird Formula http://members.cardomain.com/tailwind [ Edited on 07/03/2008 @ 20:33:44 ]

If "verticle screen real estate is 100% more usable than this horizontal nonsense" why not just take those wide screens you hate so much and turn it vertical?
Then you can beat-off all day long to your vertical real estate.
FYI: I hate how you ALWAYS use the word real estate to talk about monitors.
Pisses me off. I'm going to kick you in the nuts.

I do auto CAD drawings and LOVE the widescreen, I wish I could talk my boss into getting a second so I could set up a dual monitor setup, that'd make my life SOO much easier at work. Oh, and yeah you should be able to flip it horizontally and just make some simple adjustments in your video card software. speaking of witch, if you've got a decent card, it'll compensate for it. I know everything I view is normal, and takes up the whole screen. My advice is A) get a decent, up to date video card B) figure out how to use your settings and not an option C) quit bitching about it have a nice day! -- #1 If Americans really wanted to be informed, network news wouldn't be all fluff. Americans want to be reassured and have their prejudices confirmed, the last thing they want is to be challenged or have to deal with issues that aren't black and white/good vs evil. Complex issues with a lot of gray areas scare people. #2 Only in America do we make the majority cater to the whims of the minority. [ Edited on 07/03/2008 @ 21:04:00 ]

I'm sorry you payed a lot for that 640 version.
widescreens are nice. Yes we are always going to have to scroll vertically, but high res pictures are nice when you uhh... exercise.
I have been noticing lately that when looking at nekkid pics... I have to zoom to make it the full size... my 22" isnt big enough anymore. --

I have a widescreen and wouldnt trade it for the world. I almost never play games and I very rarely watch movies...but I am a software programmer so the extra width means I can fit more code on the screen I also usually have a big monitor that I use extended desktop on. -- 2005 GMC 1500HD 6.0L, 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix

I'm running dual 21" LCD displays (standard aspect) on XP. My brother picked up a 26 inch or so wide screen monitor for his system. It seems VISTA is a little more suited for practical wide screen use as opposed to XP. --

Love my wide screen. I think it's perfect for reading/writing documents. I can open two windows side by side and type in one and research in the other. 22" Acer. --
