Purist Question

Posted By: Reaper  Yearly Donor since 01-28-2008 On: 05-26-2008 @ 13:37:25         Reply | Edit
Ok I was wondering how you guys felt about messing with a limited production car. I have a 1996 WS6 car number 27 of 2051 made. What I was thinking was LS1 conversion... I mean complete Front end and drivetrain. I really hate to do it to a limited car but I really want an LS1. I've been such a purist that I've never even drilled and extra hole in this car even with the 383 I put in its still the original engine. Also the car has only 28,000 miles on it. I can't sell it to buy another car cause I have too much money tied up in this one to even bother selling. What would you guys do?

I would save up, and then buy a cheap LS1. They are going cheap enough that buy the time you buy fenders, hood, bumper, an LS1, and everything to do the conversion you would spend ABOUT the same, and you wouldn't be messing with a limited car.

Why even bother? It's going to take a fuckload of work to pull that off.

Make a decision. Sell your car and get an LS1, or live with what you've got.

Well as far as cost goes I have all primo stuff to pull and sell.. body parts are perfect and a 420rwhp proven 383.. sure the LS parts will cost more but the ofset wont be as bad

Why do you need an LS1? You already have great power... Is there some sex appeal about it?

Also, as far as the purist thing... I'd say putting in a 383 has already defeated that purpose... You already have non-numbers match parts in the engine, so to a true purist, it's already tainted... Same goes for anything else you've done, like changing suspension, etc...

I say do what you want with it... A pure car only matters if you plan to sell it to someone who's looking for a pure car... If someone just wants a bad ass ride, they won't care about the X of Y produced figure anyways, but I'm still confused about what converting to an LS1 would buy you, besides a lighter wallet and a good few months worth of hard work...

I wouldnt do the front end conversion. The LT1 WS6's are rare, and looks BADASS. I honestly think they are the meanest looking 4th gens. If you want to throw an ls1 in there, go ahead. Dont make it a cookie cutter black late 4th gen bird though. There are way too many of them...

Well the point was that this car can easily be put back to stock with out alot of bs. I have all the original shocks and struts/ springs and what not.
I just really like the LS1 look better and seeing Red89GTA selling that sweet looking ride made me think about it. I'm also tired of all the LT1 crap breaking like the opti plus I have most of a twin turbo LS1 kit laying around that would also go in.

i would honestly just sell your car and get an LS1 car to start, not worth the time or swapping the front end.

trade me your car for mine and then you can fuck with mine or sell it

Every car is a limited production car.

I like the front end on an LT1 WS6 ALOT though, and wouldn't mess with it for that reason. Go nuts with the motor.

I'd say keep that car the same... you'd be better off in the long run... if you really want an ls1 car then buy one... but dont mess with a limited edition

i'll trade you...i just ordered new heads n intake.

seriously though, keep it man, who cares if shit breaks, you can fix it, easily.

if your worried about the opti THAT much, pick up an ltcc thingy, much cheaper than an ls1.

whatever happened to the old plans for it???

dont sell it...you wont get NEAR enough to compensate for the time love and money that you've put into it.
