Who would have known?!

Posted By: BernBern On: 05-09-2008 @ 11:44:36         Reply | Edit
So my ground and my power cable to my 1000watt amp decided to make love and silly me my ground wasnt thick enough to support the fuse next to the battery and.. well you know what happens next... smoke, fire, meltage, the whole nine.. Car filled up with smoke, had to pull over and pray nothing TOO bad melted, luckily the carpet the wire was against didnt catch fire or else byebye camaro..

Anyway the reason for this thread.. Check this out..

Ever since I have had my stereo system without power, my car has been getting 5+ MPG! I know electrical devices ultimately use more gas, but wow I didnt think THAT much. SO now i'm up from 11MPG to 16MPG! Sweet deal huh?

Sounds like something is wrong with your car... You should be easily into the 20mpg+ range with your mods... unless there's something I don't know... And an amp should barely be noticeable as far as fuel mileage goes...

Get a new battery or alternator?

In my old 94 Jeep(stock), we put a new battery in it after the old one took a shit, +4mpg. From 13 to 17. Woo!

Hot Red : Well I have an A4 and do most of my traveling on hwy (~70mph). rpms usually are sitting at 2500-3000 when i'm cruising.. I hear the M6 can cruise at that speed around 1000-1500 rpms... Do you still think my MPG should be alot better?

Jacky: Hey whats up! I just moved into my own place about a month ago, so I haven't really had much time to be online! I'm in voorhees now, not so close to your woolworth's

Actually this just occured to me. I have a service engine soon light on and I recall it throwing an "Auxiliary Emmision" code.. Or at least thats what I thought it was.. I'll check it again next time I go to an autozone..

Could Something like that affect MPG?

Thanks!

if you are doing highway driving your MPG is WAY WAY off from what it should be.

I have A4 2.73s and I run just under 2000RPMs at 80 and can easily get 26MPG or more at that speed.

you should be getting over 25 @ 70mph even with 3.23s. The LS1 is better on gas than the LT1

yeah, you should definately be in the 20's...

My old lt1 used to have headers, intake, exhaust, auto tranny, 3000 stall, and 4.10's out back, and blew a little black smoke cause it was running too rich. It would sit at over 3000rpms on the interstate at 75 or so... It even got around 20mpg...

Even my 3/4 ton 6.0 liter truck with programming, headers, auto 4wd tranny, 5,000+lbs curb weight and 4.11 rear gets 13-15mpg...

Vehix says your cars factory epa rating is 25 hwy mpg...

And yes, the engine code could be a contributing factor...

I get better gas mileage than you in my HD with a bigger motor and 3.73's. I agree...something is very wrong.

got that SES code problem fixed, was just an air check valve ($10 autozone).

I'm gonna try to replace sparks/wires/fuel filter and see if that helps any. If i can gain another 10MPG from doing that, it will pay itself off in like 2 months, hah!

I'll report back to you guys after the new sparks! Thanks!
