Guitar players..

Posted By: thenewChrisB On: 05-09-2008 @ 04:13:30         Reply | Edit
I've always wanted to learn how to play, but never really had the time. Now that it seems I'm past my "party" stage and spend most nights at home with the gf when I'm not working I think I'm going to take a stab at it.

My gf has played guitar for years, so I have someone to teach me. Anyways, what do you guys think of this guitar? Looking for something semi-decent to learn on, if I pick it up and want to keep playing in a year or so then maybe I'll look at picking up something a bit more expensive..

Why?

I like acoustic.

its up to you man. Electric guitars tend to be a little easier to play since everything is closer together and the strings are easier to press, but learn on whatever you want to learn. Most people learn on acoustics. I did when I was 6

I used to have both, but now I just have my electric. I'd learn the basics on the acoustic. If you like it you'll get an electric anyways. It's definitely not easy though. Then again some people take to it with ease.

That Fender is OK.

My brother in law has one identical to this one except it's black. He took classical guitar lessons and stuff. Plays DMB songs a lot. It sounds really good and has a good feel to it.

Have fun

Edit: also you will build up your finger strength with an acoustic.

I learned on an electric but I wish I learned on an acoustic.
... Not only will you have better finger strength by learning on an electric but your reach and your ear will benefit.

DEFINITELY learn to play on an acoustic. if you arent set on that fender, try to find a yamaha. they make nice cheap acoustics that sound great.

I picked up a really nice Yamaha for 90 bucks with a hard case a few years ago. Guy bought it and had it under his bed for a couple of years. I sold it for 160 bucks about a year later. I wish I'd kept it. It was 300 new according to the internet. I've tried to buy it back but the guy won't sell.

As stated, start off with an acoustic. If anything, learn on your girlfriend's guitar, that way if you don't think you'll be sticking with it, you're not out of any money. Just for reference, its nothing like Guitar Hero lol

Starting with an acoustic will build proper technique, sound quality, and good strong finger muscles. If the strings are the problem, you can get lighter gauge strings to be a little easier on your fingers.

I went ahead and purchased that epiphone AJ-1 after doing some more research on it.

The gf doesn't have a guitar anymore, but still knows how to play, so this will be for both of us..Since we live together now, it'll give us something else to do when we're at home in the evenings other than watching movies etc.

fwiw, I suck at guitar hero, so it better not be anything like that, lol.

I worked in a music store for 4 years and an avid player and you made a pretty decent choice with the epiphone. I would have went ibanez just starting off because for the money, they are the most consistant and the warranty programs they offer are top notch. Epiphone is made by Gibson and sorry dood, quality with them over time has done WAYYYY down.

My bro in law's Epiphone is nice, I wouldn't have recommended it if it wasn't.

Ibanez's are nice. I want to get an Ibanez electric. As long as my Peavy holds up, I probably won't though.
