$8000 to invest... help me out

Posted By: RS31 On: 01-04-2008 @ 22:52:26         Reply | Edit
Well i've been working a lot and spending little. im ready to start looking into temp. investments (for a house fund). I believe a mutual fund is probably going to be my best bet for a safe, decent return (rather than sitting in my checking gaining 0% interest). i've done some research and decided to start off with a T. Rowe Price growth fund and toss maybe $3000 or so in it.

PRGFX

Anyone have any advice or anything else I should look into currently?

I've thought about Roth IRA's... but being as I'm a contract employee I dont get a paycheck from my place of work yet... so i'll wait on that until things calm down and become consistant.

any other funds that I should be looking at?

any help is appreciated

Email me sometime tomorrow night after 8:00 pm and I'll point you in the right direction regarding the right types of funds for both short-term and retirement savings.

I need to know:
How much you want to invest short-term and how much for retirement;
How soon you will need the money;
Are you interested in conservative, or riskier investments;
What other investments do you have (401k, IRA, Bonds, etc); and
What kind of debts you have (car, school, credit card debts)

I will not sell you anything, or even recommend a specific fund, only help you find what you need to make a few rational decisions. You make the choices and I will show you how to tell if they are right for you.

Ask around, most of the people I have helped on here have learned how to make better investing decisions and are making or have made a little money on their investments.

Just as an aside: Why settel for the TRowe fund's measly 14% and change when these have ALL made at least double that return in the exact same category? http://www.smartmoney.com/top25funds/index.cfm (do a search under Large Cap Growth and see what pops up)
You have a good idea on the sector, just need to do a little more research to set yourself up better for the next year or so.
