In the Air Force I had my own room as an E3. Just had to share a tent with 19 other assholes when deployed. Once you get BAQ life gets better. But, in the Marines I believe it's part of the jarhead subculture to thrive on misery.

im an e3 now. im livin in the dorms. but i live in a suite. theres 4 of us who have our own bedrooms a walkin closet and our own bathroom and shower. but we share a kitchen an dining room. i like it. when do you plan on makin corporal?
i'm kinda with you on this one too fastcop... 4 and out. yea its great to see europe. (in germany) but i'm really not that excited about everything. jus a bunch of stupid rules that we ahve to follow because we're supposed to be disciplined. i got kids in here that are gonna get kicked out soon. its not hard here. jus dumb sometimes. and i have seen too many people discharged.

Damn, that setup sounds WAY better than ours.

I was on an older base though. Single tech school style room with a shared bathroom between 2 rooms.

You're right... this isn't the time to mess up in the Air Force right now, they're doing another "force shaping" and kicking out around 3700 people over the next couple years.

"creatrue comforts" is bull crap. If you were a civilian, or if you lived out in town you'd have to buy all that stuff anyway.

"food" is also bull crap. If you have a meal card, you're garaunteed regular meals at the chow hall. COMRATS isn't enough to eat out every night on, so you'd have to go get food and cook it yourself anyway. Also, if you're an idiot and run out of money on COMRATS, no more food for you. Your meal card never runs out. Also, your chow hall on Lejeune is way better than ours.

Yeah, field days in the barracks suck, but as long as you keep your stuff clean, your rack made, and your wall lockers secured, it's not so bad. When I lived in the barracks, we'd spend maybe an hour cleaning the room on field day, and I had all kinds of car parts and other crap in there.

P.S. When you pick up Corporal, you're still gonna get treated like crap, only then you'll also be held responsible as an NCO for all the Pvts/PFCs/Lcpls, even the ones you've never even met. If one of them screws up, it's your fault. I go to brief after brief where our SgtMaj tells us how we're screwed up because Lcpl Shmuckateli from some shop I've never heard of got a DUI over the weekend.

In conclusion, yeah, it sucks sometimes, but overall, I'm glad I joined. In the long run, you probably will be too.

Sounds a lot like going to college. Only then you get money from your parents usually.

Did somebody say you're stationed at Lejeune? I have a buddy who's a 2LT Combat Engineer down there. I think he gets shipped out in January.
