Official fbody.com P90X thread

We've got one going on TAC so thought I'd post one up here since a few guys are doing it.

Tonight is my last night of week 5, I'm down 12 lbs now.

I haven't weighed this low since my freshman year of college, and I literally don't own any clothes that are too small on me now.

I am in the best shape of my life, and I still have 7 weeks to go!

I'm down to 234 now, and still dropping.

I am supposed to start next week. HOWEVER, I am lacking alot of motivation in life right now let alone the motivation to torture my body for an hour and a half for 90 days on top of the 15 hours im already working. Maybe if someone told me I would look like brad pitt in snatch I would be motivated.

Let me just say that I am on week 6 now. I have dropped 12 lbs, gone from a tight 42 to a loose 38, and my arms and legs are getting tight without flexing and I have veins on my forearms now, and my stomach is getting really flat and starting to get ab definition.

Can't wait to see what kind fo results I get after the 90 days are up!

Alright…you’ve got my attention. Some P90x questions…

Up till about a week ago, I had never heard of this program. However, from what I have read (very, very quickly skimming through a few articles as I haven’t had time to research it yet), it appears that it produces some INCREDIBLE results if followed correctly. Everything I have read seems very impressive. So I was wondering if a few of you guys who are on it can give me some insight before I really dive into researching it. My questions are:

-What does this program require you to buy? Do you need a full weight set? A set of dumbbells and a curl bar? Basically, what home gym equipment do you need access to in order to begin? This is a program you follow on DVD (so at the very least you’d need to work out in front of a TV correct?)

-Is there a specific diet that must be followed while you are doing it? (obviously you would want to eat well while partaking in ANY exercise/diet/lifting program, but I am curious if there is a specific diet they spell out that must be followed, or if this program revolves 100% around your training regimen).

-How long does the program take every day (I thought I read 90 minutes a day?). How long does it take total? (90 days?)

-Is this program for VERY out of shape people or just guys looking to get cut? (meaning, could someone overweight handle this program). I have been trying to hit my treadmill for months now, but cardio is definitely something I have been slacking on, lol. Just wondering what caliber of shape you need to be in to handle this, or if this is really a program for ALL shapes and sizes). We all know that fat loss comes naturally with weight training and any exercise, so I am curious what this program specifically targets and focuses on.

-How quickly did those of you on it begin seeing results? A friend of mine that went out in a while back told me it “beat the shiit out of him”, but that if you stick to it and get through it every day and don’t give up, it was one of the best programs out there.

-Lastly, how much does this cost and where is the best place to buy it? (are there different versions? Like a “basic” and “deluxe” version? Etc.). It seems to be all over EBay for all different prices.

Thanks in advance fellas.

Ill try my best to answer your questions for you.

1. Not sure if it requires you to buy these things but it suggests it. But i went out and bought a heart rate monitor watch.I also bought a pull up bar that also came with some push up handles. I also bought some resistance bands. Im working on finding a good set of adjustable dumbbells too.May also want a good pair of tennis shoes < not required but would help alot.I also want to buy a good skale too. While your doing the routines they have 3-4 people in each doing the workouts with you.And each person usually is showing alternative ways of doing the stuff if your limited on equipment. But most of the stuff you need is pretty cheap i think.I dont need dumbbells because the resistance bands do really good job, i just want to try it all.

2. There is a diet plan but i honestly havent even looked at it yet.So far i think just doing the routine everyday is enough torture lol.But i mainly stopped eating all fast foods which was a big thing for me,and i stopped drinking soda.I also started to only eat when i felt hungry which is hard to do for me anyways.and when i do eat i eat just enough to stop the hunger feeling.I also try to not eat any red meat. Not sure if my diet is healthy or not but it seems to be working for me.

3. Most of the routines take a good hour to complete. That includes a warm up and cool down period. There is 1 routine thats called ab ripper and i believe thats 30 mins long. But i havent been able to do that do to a back injury and dont wanna risk making it worse.

4. I think the program is for all sorts of shapes of people.Me im about 5'8 and my weight was 275 lbs. So i can say im pretty overweight & out of shape.I think its for people who are very serious about changing thier lives.Me im tired of being a fatty so im sticking with it.Most days i do feel like quitting while doing the routines but after you get done they get easier and you look forward to your next day to do it again.at least thats how i am.

5. I agree with your friend this routine will kick your ass.but if you stick with it you will see results.Like i said above my weight was 275 when i started 2 and half weeks ago.Im now down to 260.Not sure if its because of the routine or because of how i been eating lately.I think a bit of both but i been feeling great.

6. Me i went the cheapo route aka bought copies off a guy i know because i wasnt sure if it was legit.Best $$$ i spent in a while.I think there is only 1 version.but i also heard there is a p90x 2 or something .

Well i hope some of that helps and excuse my grammar

1. I bought the pull up bar, some cheapie dumbells (need more, I've almost maxed them out), and a Yoga mat because I sweat like a beast. Considering I was paying $40 a month for the gym before, I'm still on top after two months.

2. I haven't followed the diet plan. I've been eating healthier, but I know if I had some diet plan I'd change after the 90 days anyway, so might as well find something that works for me during and after.

3. Two of them take an hour - Kenpo and Plyo. Three of them take an hour and 15 minutes with doing Ab Ripper X. The longest is Yoga, which is 1:30.

4. Program is for all shapes and sizes. Like he said, it is for people who want to change their lives. I was in half decent shape because I started running a month or so before I started, but I have friends who are really out of shape who are doing it. The trick is to just to as best as you can, over time you will be able to do the exercises. My first night of Ab Ripper X I did maybe 25 reps out of the 300+ they do. Now I'm up to close to what they are doing.

5. I literally saw results the first week. It really does kick your ass, but I'm in the best shape of my life and I still have 6+ weeks to go!

6. Yeah, I....uh....bought it off a guy too.....

Thanks for the info fellas! I think I may give put it on my Christmas list and give it a try! (it seems like a used set on Ebay and the likes goes for under $50, does that sound like a good deal?). I dont know anyone local who has it so burning a set is out of the question.

Oh, and I found a downside to the P90X - I can;t buy any damn clothes now!

I'm 6'4" 235lbs now. XL shirts are huge on me, but the sleeves are the right length. L shirts fit my torso, but the shoulders and arms are too tight.

I tried to buy a new shirt the other day and I either could buy a baggy XL, or a L shirt that made me look like a little kid who's parents couldn't afford proper clothes.

The large shirt that is too tight is the look you should be going for! Just watch closely every time you pass a gym at the guys coming out... LOL!

I know a few people doing it.

I have yet to start due to laziness. I have to do PT almost every morning anyway and am in decent shape for the average person.

That said, the people I know doing it look like COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PEOPLE than they did before they started.

I have yet to talk to ANYONE that does it that says it isn't working.

Being in the largest Company in the Army, and along side the second largest, that is saying something!

ok im either going to try this program or a few other similar ones. im already in good/great shape but some eating/beer drinking and sitting in a car for 12 hrs a day at work has made my core strength and abs fade away.

i have a few questions regarding the p90-x program that im hoping you guys can answer for me

i read all the posts above, and had many of the questions answered..but judging by the dates of some of the posts i'm thinking some of you guys are finished or at the end, so maybe the answers to some of the quetions posted above have changed....

1. as for weights, equiptment, etc.. what is needed? a full set of dumbells, bars, resistance bands, or if a small set, anything higher than a 40lb dumbell? pullup bars? weight belts or bracelet things?

2. what is the typical workout time per day.. including warm up and cool down? 90 mins? or about an hour? as u posted above most are an hour, did any of this change?

3. regarding wights and eq.. is this training more body resistance type exercizes and plyo stuff or weight pumping and agressive sets of slugging iron ?

i'm mostly concerned about the equiptment i will need since i am trying to do this with a tv in my basement/garage. i would do it at my hq gym, but there are too many ppl in there and they use the tv and i'd also have to drive there daily.. so it'd be easier if it was practical to do at my place.

Well, I ended up having to go out of town for most of December, so I'm not done yet. I'm on my 3rd month, I have a bit under 4 weeks left.

1. You really just need dumbells OR bands and a pullup bar. I started with bands, but bought some dumbells because I didn't think I was getting as good of a workout. You shouldn't need anything higher than a 40lb dumbell unless you have been consistently lifting. I'm using 20lb dumbells now and have just now maxed them out. They do a ton of different lifts that tear you down, so having a heavy weight won't get you far.

2. It is between an hour and an hour and a half. Most of the lifting/muscle building days are 1:15 and the cardio days are an hour. Yoga is an hour and a half. Don't laugh, Yoga will kick your ass.

3. It goes like this:
Monday - weights/pushups/pullups and ab ripper
Tuesday - Plyo
Wednesday - weights/other weight training exercises for upper body
and ab ripper
Thursday - Yoga
Friday - Legs and back exercises (pullups/squats/etc) and ab ripper
Saturday - Kenpo (karate-like exercises)

It is not pure lifting, they really do a lot of different weight-training type exercises to work all kinds of different stuff. You will build a ton of muscle and lose a ton of fat.

I do it in my living room, and all I use now is my dumbells (I have the short bars that you can add/remove weight plates) and the pullup bar. You really don't need much equipment.

I am in the best shape of my life. I just bought a new shirt that is a large - I haven't worn a large since like my junior year of high school. I also have gone from being able to do one pushup, literally ONE pushup, to being able to do 90-100 over the course of a workout.

I've gone from XXL shirts to a loose XL or comfortable L, and from a tight 42" waist to a loose 38" waist.

DO IT!

I'm starting week 5 on Monday. Is anyone still doing it? I did 60ish days of it a few years ago.

My starting weight was 250 on 1-4-10
I weighed in this morning at 230 01-29-10 trying to get into shape for a friends wedding in Mexico. Have until 05-15-10 to get there. Really going to try to get through all 90 days this time. Its just an ass kicker (for me) everyday. I'll be 41 this year too.

I'll post pics if I make it through, give you guys a good laugh.

i need to start doing this.

I started going to the gym at the beginning of the month but haven't really seen the hardcore results I would like and I think this sounds like something that would whoop my ass.

Did you just buy like adjustable dumbbells or what?

I am a college student so I would like to keep the expense to a minimum. A pullup bar, really? there is no way on earth I am going to be able to do that any time soon as big as I am.

I am working right now (coop rotation switch between work and school) but I go down to Purdue like every weekend so I would probably miss Friday/Saturday, think it would cause to much of an issue if I just went on a continual rotation but took those two days off?

Don't sweat not being able to do pull ups. I guarantee if you stick to this program you'll be amazed. Dumbells, you need very few. I have 8,12,20,25,30 and 35's I wish I had 5's. Your ass will be so kicked 8's will feel like 90's

I'm still holding around 163 or so... I'm on the front (in four layers of clothes) pulling a 15yr 125lb old wunderkind cyclist up to the break away. I'm almost ready to dip to 155 for some some races in the mountains, but I'll look pretty bad I think.

^^Yeah, don't push yourself too hard until you are ready for it, and try to do as many of the moves/reps that you can. Just keep pushing play.

I just started again yesterday. Gonna stick with it this time, I got hurt last time(not from the program though). I finally got a set schedule worked out. I will post up pics in 90 days, I promise. Wish me luck!

I officially have exactly two weeks left.

I had to take some time off, I reaggrivated an old sports injury in my ankle and it has been really bothering me. I've been able to exercise, but not a full hour of P90X. It is feeling better now, so I'm gonna hit it again tonight hard and finish out this last two weeks. Then it is time for insanity!

I just started day 1 today. I have worked out on and off (mostly on) over the past 5 years. This workout if good, i can tell that it will be tough compared to the solid weightlifting and runnin that i was used to because this is more core and endurance based with lower weights. should be fun.

i ordered the 13 dvd set off ebay for about half the price..however it did not come with any of the guides. i searched around online and was able to pull up some spreadsheets people have created for me to track my progress... but it looks like most of the weeks will be the same exercizes on the same respective days..except for a "recovery week" is this correct or am i not reading the stuff right..

...basically the way i understand it is i will keep doing day 1's workout (and useing the same dvd) on day 1 of week 2, and 3 NOT week 4, and then again week 5, etc.. so that same dvd on the chest and back exercizes? this is whats tricking me, b/c i thought it would be a different workout each and every day. but apparently not (correct me if im wrong). i know i should have ordered the guides but oh well.

Yeah you got it, if you create an account at Beachbody.com you can use the website to set up your schedule and goals and track them that way. it is an easy way to keep track of what your daily program should be. just put in the program you are doing and the day you start and it will plan it all out for you the program for each day.
