They even investigated him at one point after he publicly (on a web forum) sided with suicide bombers and sharing their same views...why that didn't throw flags, I have no idea. I chalk this incident up to political correctness. If they would have kicked him out for what he was investigated for, the military would have been beaten down by the press, civil rights groups, etc. I also heard an interesting conspiracy theory on this subject. **I don't necessairly share this view because if it were true, we are in a LOT of trouble as a country** 
This guy was muslim and pissed off at the US...many think Obama is a secret muslim. There were tens of thousands of people (some reports say 100,000) in DC protesting the health care bill (which received almost zero press). The conspiracy theorists think that Obama issued the order to his muslim buddy to go ahead and take out some soldiers to keep the press away from the protestors. The press is already making excuses for this guy. The latest is he had some form of PTSD despite the fact that he's never served anywhere outside of the U.S. President Obama had his own Bush-esque moment at the point of impact. When told about the tragedy he went ahead with a planned public appearence and behaved in what many, including myself, to believe an inappropriate manner given the circumstances. I'll be interested if the press hangs this around this neck like they did with the Bush-gradeschool incident during Sept. 11th.
