This is my long, rambling post for the night. Sorry. I'm assigning fake names to make it easy.
My parents always freak out when I talk about how "someone needs a good ass whooping." They make me out to be an uncivilized beast basically. We have a neighbor (probably 19 years old) who is one of the rudest kids ever. He is disrespectful to everyone (parents included) I always say that the kid just needs one good ass-beating, but they freak out.
So anyways.. this kid (Dick) just transfered into my school. He knows someone who is my good friend (Tom) 's buddy, so my friend sort of took him under his wing. The issue is, the kid is obnoxious. We have had to kick him out of our house on several occasions for getting into constant arguments. On friday night he started preaching to my roommate (Lenny, a Jew) about how Jews [wrongly] control corporate America. While there is a SLIGHT degree of validity to this statement, he had no support for it. Not to mention he was arguing about it with a Jew who played varsity football in highschool, varsity lacrosse in college, and did a lot of boxing training.
That argument ended somehow and we all went down to our house. At this point the kid started arguing (politics) with 2 freshmen girls who were just hanging out, being absurdly condescending and insulting. I am sort of the political "authority" among my friends, so I walked up to set him straight. I told him that if he didn't calm down, he was gone. He kept going, so I sent him to time out.
(Dick is a decently sized kid... not enough size to back up his BS though, probably 5'11 and 180)
Then Saturday night... I was in front of the sorority house that is right next door to my house. Heard that the president of the sorority (Ashley) had been called a slut by some random guy. The girl's boyfriend (squints) plays hockey with me. Squints is in a predominately football fraternity, but he is a little white kid that weighs probably 135. Anyways... turns out the "random kid" was actually dick. Squints friend ended up getting in a fight with him right in front of me. The dick has 50LBs on him, so I decided to let it go. Some of Squint's frat brothers tried jumping in... I explained the situation to them, and they backed off.
Long story short, Squints knocked Dick straight out (dropped like a tombstone... twice). A few well timed punches and now Dick looks like he got hit by a train.
Dick is my "friend" in that he spends a lot of time with us. I let the fight go, and actually held people back from breaking it up. As I said, I knew Dick wasn't outnumbered or outsized, it was an unfair fight IN HIS FAVOR.
He has since been trying to remember what all happened, as it is sort of a blur. I told him that 1. It was his fault. 2. It was only 1 guy, and 3. It was a guy that is much smaller than him.
Was I in the wrong for letting him learn his lesson?

Sorry I didnt clarify. The neighbor is just an example of how my parents call me an asshole for thinking an assbeating can be justified.
The kid has been much more subdued since it happened. Hes been wearing aviators around all day to hide the (absurdly) swollen eye and all. You can tell that he is embarrassed, especially because the other kid was so tiny.
As I've always said though, "gym biceps" can't teach you to fight like a hockey player. --

I know that my political views differ from some people on here, I think that I gave him good advice on Friday night though.
He was essentially preaching an extreme libertarianism, which I will admit I do not support. I told him that he was gone if he kept arguing with people. To this, he got all angry saying that my disagreeing with his political views was a shitty reason to kick him out of our house. I gave him 2 tidbits of advice.
1. I don't need a fucking reason. I'm the president of my fraternity.
2. Political views are great. I love hearing different opinions. He was giving opinions and getting very worked up when people disagreed though. I told him that if you want to be considered a legitimate voice, you need to refrain from being taken over by emotion. Debate is meant to be RATIONAL, something which emotion is not. If you start screaming at someone with whom you are debating, you have lost. Similarly, if you are going to be so vocal, you need to be willing to let other people speak and hear their side. --

politics,or faith, so many people cant, or will not try to understand ,tolorate, or even listen to the others view. thats sad.
i may not totally agree with other people, but i listen, and i try to understand the reasoning behind it. it helps to grow. --

The importance of a good old fashioned ass kicking* is so underrated.
No bats, knives or guns. No long standing need for revenge after the incident. Just a nice, well rounded ass kicking which will have no long term physical impairment, but just might serve as a long term attitude adjustment.
*Good old fashioned ass kicking: A few punches, maybe some kicks, no weapons, public and often very humbling. No one is "beat down" but there is a clear winner and a very clear loser. -- Former ride: 531RWHP/477RWTQ

I agree.
There are basically 4 MAIN houses in a row (football, soccer, sorority, my fraternity) and most of the people looking for a party end up there. Normally results in a block party.
So there were a few fights. First was "dick" getting his shit rocked for a good reason. No charges pressed.
Next was a misunderstanding in which one of my acquaintances/friends (Louie) was about to get POUNDED by a football player (we'll call him Thunder) who I also know fairly well and is generally peaceful. I saw what was happening and got the drunk muscles required to grab Thunder around the neck and drag him away. He started to shove me, at which point I made it very clear that he had made a mistake and that I just wanted to make sure he didn't do anything stupid. He apologized to me immediately, and then apologized to Louie. No hard feelings.
Then Thunder was just hanging out and some dumb stoner (Nick) ran up, sucker punched him, and ran off. Thunder is a 265LB offensive lineman, for the record. He got a bloodied up nose, nothing more really. Guess what, cops showed up right at that time... and he pressed charges!
Nick was just being a little bitch, trying to show his manliness or something. He had absolutely no chance fighting Thunder, so he took a cheap shot and ran!
Its kind of nice seeing most people being honorable. In the last situation, there was no honor... so charges were pressed! (And I made sure to let the cops know that Nick has been on and off probation for 4 years, and has violated it numerous times ) --

Once you lose your cool in a debate it is obvious that you no longer have anymore rational argument left in you. Resorting to that and name calling means you lost the debate.
If someone wants to do nothing else but strut their mental muscle they should do it the right way. Join a debate team or go chat with a TA or Prof. for a while.
At parties the last thing people want to do is debate (unless they are really high). He should chill out and learn to relax and get rid of that chip on hi shoulder. You never know, people might actually like him if he does.
As for the fight, you did the right thing. He was not out numbered and he had chances to walk away. If it turned into a mob you probably would have pulled him out of the scrum. Hopefully he learned to keep his mouth shut. -- When we remember we are all mad, the mysteries disappear and life stands explained - Samuel Clemens

Well said, Nick.
Bryan- I'm not sure if I see that much drama, or if I just talk about it more. I can assume that a lot of it stems from being in such close quarters with a large group of 18-22 year olds 24/7. --

Did that fight look similar to the one you were talking about? --

why would you talk to your parents about another kid needing an ass beating? they were prolly just saying "we don't give a fuck about your interest in other young boys character flaws, get a life" but in a nice way, like saying that your a beat or a ghastly miscreant. -- Current: 2004 Deville, bone stock livery.
