They say he is among the best ever to play as far as pure talent and physical capabilities, never misses in practice, etc...but even at LSU he wasn't the brightest crayon in the box. One of these years(probably not at Oakland) he will settle down and be an awesome player. -- 2005 CTS-V LS6 M6 13.627@105.14 stock and hot/humid

I don't think he will ever be that good.
Pure athleticism gets you almost nowhere in the NFL. Its never the athletic QBs that really excel in the NFL - it is the smart pure passers who run the offense, not just make plays with athletic ability.
Let me point to Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, and Drew Brees, just to name a few
Michael Vick has more athletic ability than all of them, easily. --

Derek Anderson was never touted as the best thing since sliced bread. He also doesn't make huge sums of money.
If you wanted to make that comparison you would have to go to Brady Quinn. I have been calling that since back when he was at Notre "Over Rated" Dame. He did not have top pick skill but we were still stupid enough to pay him top pick money. Look at where that got us - its time for him to take over and he totally blew it. He sucks, always has
I hate ND so much, always over rated, always a bunch of fags.
Clevelands problems stem seperately from the QB alone though. --

Kyle, Quinn was destined to fail. He only played 5 or 6 games (which is not nearly enough to evaluate a QB), the last 3 were against some of the best defenses in the NFL this year, no one can catch a damned ball on the O, and the right side of the line is nonexistent. Put any QB in that situation and see how well they do.
Dereck Anderson is way worse
I don't think he is. Russell has far more talent around him than Anderception does. That said, both are legitimately awful. --

I still think that if Russell was in a different environment and the weight of an entire organization wasn't placed on his shoulders before he really could learn the game that he would be a much better QB -- 2005 CTS-V LS6 M6 13.627@105.14 stock and hot/humid
