No my wife is not expecting, but it looks like I might inherit two kids, a 13 yearold boy, and a 5 year old girl.
So much for retirement.

woah woah woah, don't they have laws down there protecting children from people like you?
Seriously though, good on ya. I don't know the situation but you will be a positive influence in some kids that probably need it.

Let’s see if I can be brief, and also don’t get too angry, but maybe it'll give some insight as to why I feel like I do about people living outside their ability to pay for.
Last year my Wife’s Mom (who I loved dearly) died of lung cancer, all the burden fell on us my wife had a brother and 2 sisters, although only the youngest lived in Nassau.
The youngest sister’s husband is the most selfish person you could ever imagine then times it by a million.
Well last October the youngest sister died of breast cancer totally unexpected.
All the burden of her funeral fell on us, worthless husband basically did nothing, we even had to loan him $10k for the funeral.
She left these two kids, she also left a small sum of money het the husband couldn’t get his hands on, and he was to pay us back, when he got it!
Well he informed my wife he had spent the money, and couldn’t pay us back. this would be prolly the fifth time he has taken advantage of us in some fashion, ah I have just figured how to tell you guys just how little I think of him, I would rather help Obama than help him, and I am serious about that.
Interestingly while my Mom in Law was being treated for lung cancer, this guy would not stop smoking in the house.
My wife and I have been taking the kids generally every second weekend to our house.
Welllllll sad to say, he has just been diagnosed with stage three lung cancer, has a new mortgage, and no money, and in all lightly hood wont be around too much longer, so thanks to people who don’t plan their lives beyond the next day, at retirement age, I am gonna have 2 kids to raise, morally and financially.
It's really hard to agree to help this guy again, and not to hate him, but I wouldn’t be much of a Christian if I did otherwise.
So, that’s the abridged story

You are a good man. My dad and I were talking about this the other night. My cousin has a foster kid that is about to be adopted by his aunt and uncle, so we got into the conversation.
It would be hard to do, but I wouldn't think twice about taking in my sister or sister-in-law's children. They had no choice in who their dad is, and they are family above all.
No matter what, my family would be kept together rather than having them sent to foster care or some other adoptive family.
Good job, you have much respect from me. --

57 huh? +/- 10? (I'm betting on the +)
Yikes on the situation though. Nice of you to step up, but you must also be mindful of #1. Whats up with the other relatives? Anyone else in a position to take them? Maybe someone who still has younger kids? --

unfortunatly no, his sister lives in one of the Islands and has a special needs child, and no finances, my wife has a sister and brother both of which also live in the islands (great for summer vacations though) and if it comes to this we have to be cautious that the kids dont get the feeling that they are just passed around from one person to the next, which could have God knows what kind of effect on their mental health.
I wish, but it just aint to be, my faith makes me believe that God has a purpose for this, which is much comfort to me.
However to add a lil humor to this, I quote from the movie Gladiator;
Maximus to Proximo: or: Pongo to Cmerc:-"Are you in danger of becoming a good man?"

but I just got an empty house
Interestingly, we sold our waterfront home Feb 2008 with the intent of buying a Condo, that didn't work out and we ourchases a 5 bed room house on a canal (great for the boat, and with in 3 months my wifes mom was here with round the clock nurses, my mom was here for a month (pacemaker) and various family members staying here.
Now that all ended, and back to an empty house, and now it looks like we will be needing a big house once more.

Steve, you are a paragon of kindness. The kids are in good hands if they have to stay with you. My aunt and uncle had to adopt their grandchild to get him away from his worthless parents, and even though they are both older than you, I don't think they would make a different choice. --
