Yay for terrible umpires!

Posted By: 4Birdman On: 10-30-2009 @ 10:34:06         Reply | Edit
And so you know I'm not biased, I had two of my friends who are diehard Yankees fans text me this morning about this as well.

One of them put it just right - "I think Burnett needs to send a nice check to that ump for the expanded strikezone"

My neighbor who is from NYC called me this morning and asked me if I was pissed about the extra 6" the umpire gave the Yanks off the outside corner.

And then all the blown calls, crazy. The one with Howard catching the ball is questionable. They replaced it like 20 times on TV and it may have bounced 1/2" in front of his glove, but unless that umpire was giving Howard a reach-around there was no way he could have seen that.

Utley was safe at first, too.

Calls on the field are one thing I can overlook, things happen and sometimes get missed. I understand that.

But I haven't seen so many balls that were called strikes since the Braves of the 90s. Your fucking job is to call balls and strikes. Home plate is roughly 18" wide, don't create a fucking 30" strike zone. I swear the strike zone last night was wider than Molina is.

And I can say without a doubt that the outcome would have been different if they would have called the strike zone like a sane ump would have. I played ball in high school and college, and I can tell you the games where you have an ump with a huge strike zone, you pretty much HAVE to swing at bad pitches because you have no idea if he's going to call it a ball or a strike.

But to his credit, Burnett had one nasty curveball last night.

There were way too many bad calls last nite.

Maybe they need to use instant replay to check and make the calls.

Fuggin' umps!

Bad calls really ruin the game no matter which side of the call you're on.

MLB should review every play on every game, identify every ump that is blowing the calls, and then give them all the boot.

They should also take away some of their power while they're at it - they shouldn't be able to eject a player from a game because he mouthed off to the ump.

I watch the game to see the players, not the umps. When the umps become the show then there is no reason to watch any more.

Actually, I think they should be able to eject players that mouth off. I can see arguing a call, but a lot of players take it way too far and MOST umpires eject at the right times.

For once, and I think this might be the only time in the past 7 years I can say this, I agree with shocktrp.

Madson almost ruined it for us. Homo
Why is Victorino such a little girl. He got so pissy when he realized that he had been taken out. He made 3.125 MILLION this contract year... why could he not take the opportunity to sit back, pack a dip, and watch his boys dominate?

Utley earned his $11,285,714. Lets see if he can knock a few more out to take the Phillies all the way. Up until tonight he could only hit homers if the bases were empty... so I'm glad he got a few more RBIs, thats what saved us the game.

I hate Werth. I think he's a mediocre player that rarely deserves mention. Not to mention he looks like a queer. Gardner had a DIRTY catch on him... but heres to hoping it did some damage to his shoulder!

Victorino saw there was a problem, and he was RIGHT. Had they kept him in center and put Francisco in right, the game wouldn't have been so close and we'd be talking about how great Madson was last night.

Utley is tearing it up, glad the Phils got some guys on base for him finally. There is a reason my son is named Chase.

I really like Werth, he reminds me of my favorite player as a kid - Von Hayes. He really needs to work on not chasing those low outside breaking balls, but other than that he's a great player all around. Give him another year to mature into the daily starter role and he's going to be great.

He's been progressively getting better, though. It very well may happen, there is that chance with any player, but I really think he'll develop into a good all around player.
