A Johns Hopkins University student has beheaded an intruder with a samurai sword in his garage in the eastern city of Baltimore, US.
The student, one of the four Hopkins students living in the house, encountered a man when he noticed the garage door was open and went in to investigate.
He told police that he had asked the man to get out of the garage, but the man had accosted him, AP reported.
The student was forced to defend himself with the sword, cutting off the man's head and inflicting a severe wound on his upper body. The man, whose name has not been released by police, died on the scene.
Police says the man, who had been arrested on burglary charges, had been released Saturday from a Baltimore County jail.
Baltimore police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said on Tuesday that two laptops and a Sony PlayStation had been stolen from the same house the previous day.

"The student was forced to defend himself with the sword, cutting off the man's head and inflicting a severe wound on his upper body. The man, whose name has not been released by police, died on the scene."
Is it really necessary to specify the condition of the intruder after the previous statement?
And just so any of you think about breaking into my place. Just remember I have this hanging on the wall:

I am really surprised that he had a legitimate katana. Nearly every one you see is flimsy crap that couldn't decapitate someone. Plus, I don't think it would be that easy a task for any of us. Me thinks this kid has had some training with it.
That said, I feel bad for the kid. It can't be easy to deal with what happened. --

Yeah chopping a head off with a sword takes not only a real sword but a lot of practice and training. This kid was probably waiting on the day he'd get to go feudal on someone's ass.

Classic shit, GOATS2. Beat me to it.
Does it really take practical training to cut someone's head off? I know it'd take a real sword (what do you think the blade was, tempered steel?) and not those $50 pieces of shit you see on E-Bay, but as long as you got the angle right it seems like a pretty straight forward process... -- Me > Tyrel > Nate > Pongo > pirate > three dead $5 hookers > Dubya > Pauly Shore > Meg Griffin > A-Rod > Michael Moore > Jimmy Fallon > crunk

Taking a head of in one clean swipe? That would be majorly hard without training. Try cutting through a raw steak. Not real easy. Now make that steak a lot thicker and madder. Definitely not easy. --

Well, does it say he did it in one clean swipe?
I mean, if I had a nice sharp-ass sword and someone got all up in my shit and threatened me, I know I'd be taking David Ortiz in 2004-level hacks at the guy's face. -- Me > Tyrel > Nate > Pongo > pirate > three dead $5 hookers > Dubya > Pauly Shore > Meg Griffin > A-Rod > Michael Moore > Jimmy Fallon > crunk

Why would you decapitate someone if it wasn't one clean swipe? I think a sword half-way through the neck would be sufficient enough, and the burglar would most likely be on the ground by then. If he stood there just hack'n away at the guys neck until it finally went through, this story would be different, something like "Student defends sell with sword then mutilates corpse." --

I have read a few articles that didn't mention the decapitation. If his head was on the ground next to him, I feel like they might have put a note in there about it... --

it does take proper training to cut with a sword. if your off by even a slight angle you will hit broad side and not cut. I agree with the observation that this kid had been skooled in the art.
