Dyno or Dyno Tune?

Posted By: cochran191 On: 08-10-2009 @ 08:51:46         Reply | Edit
I found a shop near me that has a dyno. I am considering getting a couple friends together and going up there. My question is, with my car being just a basic lid/cat-back car is there any reason to have it tuned? For just dyno runs it is $50 for the first pull and then $15 for all subsequent pulls. For the tune it is $100 an hour. A/F is an extra $10 a run or $25 an hour. What do you think is the best thing for me to do?

A stock car can ALWAYS use a tune If you are planning any major mods soon, I'd wait.

Yeah, I was very surprised to see stock or lid/catback LS1's gaining 20-25 rwhp or more on a good dyno tune.

If you think of the $/HP cost, it's one of the cheaper mods. Plus it's always neat to have a dyno sheet for your car and know that it's tuned to YOUR car, not a stock generic GM tune.

definetly get yourself a tune. Here is my Dads LS2 Vette before and after. No other mods at the time:

Ignore the numbers, the car runs fine, this dyno is just REALLY low because the tuner prefers a more realistic reading apparently.

Looks like approximately 20Hp and Torque. Very nice. I'm sure the more boltons there are the more than gain would have been compounded.

I'm afraid that since these guys are more import guys that it may take longer than an hour to tune my car. And I would rather not be stuck with a $300 bill for just a tune and a couple dyno runs

if you are going to pay for a tune, don't go to a shop like that then.

If you are going to fork out a significant amount of money anyway, you are much better off going to a well known LSx tuner.

put headers on before you go anyway

We really want to go to take my wife's '71 SS Chevelle. They had the 565 on the engine dyno before it was put in, but we want to see what it makes in the car with the nitrous hooked up. That and I have a friend who is getting a "new" used motor in his DD and he wants to see what he has to work with before he starts modding it. I just thought that since I was going I could take my car and make a couple pulls.

yeah there is nothing wrong with going and making some pulls, I plan on doing that this fall. I just would make sure you get a good tuner before you fork out the money for that.

Sarav, how hard is it to follow Nietzsche? I read Machiavelli's The Prince earlier this year, and the only thing that was clear was to not trust mercenary infantry while fighting on the peninsula.
