what to buy..

Some of you may remember me from a few years ago, but for those of you who don't, my name is Kyle, I go to Purdue University, and right now I am an engineering intern at Sturm Ruger (we make guns) in New Hampshire. I got out of high school disappeared in the world of college.
to the point...Through scholarships and working during the summer, I'm going to have something like $3,000 to play with. Here are the things I could buy:
- 4 wheeler,used but nice
-motorcycle, which is something I've always wanted
-paint job for my 1988 TA GTA
The 4 wheeler would be really fun and there wouldn't necesarily be much added cost. I do worry a little because it seems "replacing the top end" is an all too common thing. I am unfamiliar with 4 wheeler maintenance though.
the motorcycle is what I really want to get. I have wanted one for a while. I'd most likely get a 600cc sport bike. Something from the later 1990's since my budget isn't real high. But motorcycles have added costs like insurance and taking a class for my license. How much is motorcycle insurance, I had some internet quotes right around $200 a year. Also, is the bike i want going to be okay for a beginner? I have ridden mini bikes, bicycles, (rm250) dirtbike w/ no problems.
The way I see things, in the long term, I might as well sell my TA and get a 4th gen that already has decent paint and a 6 speed. Then I could spend extra money on making it fast. So i guess im saying that I dont think sinking money into my GTA is a great idea.
So which should I get? And why ? any extra input is welcome.

Get the bike, you could prolly find a decent shape ninja or sportster in that range.
But honestly, save the bucks while ya can, unless your parents are rich and/or you have a job waiting after college. -- Current: 2004 Deville, bone stock livery.

selling point for the bike = chicks love motorcycles, its more fun than driving a car and you can join a motorcycle gang
the cons are that its more dangerous and you can join a motorcycle gang. plus bikes are easier to steal. -- Current: 2004 Deville, bone stock livery.

jerseyfrank, Im slightly, but not too worried about the finances part. I will only spend what I can afford. I'm not going to put myself in any kind of bind.
If I go the motorcycle route, Ill get a late 90's ninja or something along those lines off craigslist for around $2500.

You may want to look into selling the GTA and buying a 4th gen as well.
I sold my LT1 formula with 18's, headers and other bolt ons with only 82k miles for $5300 and I wasn't desperate to sell (took from jan until mid may).
Hell, I picked up my ls1 for not that much more than that.
A bike is nice, I know I would get myself into a lot of trouble on one. I still want one bad though. Indiana weather is not really the best for a bike either. I think I am going to wait until after college. --

Someone would have to pay me to take an LT1.
Especially one that only cost $3k. Probably shit condition for that price. -- Me > Tyrel > Nate > Pongo > pirate > three dead $5 hookers > Dubya > Pauly Shore > Meg Griffin > A-Rod > Michael Moore > Jimmy Fallon > crunk

Doesn't change the fact it's still an LT1. -- Me > Tyrel > Nate > Pongo > pirate > three dead $5 hookers > Dubya > Pauly Shore > Meg Griffin > A-Rod > Michael Moore > Jimmy Fallon > crunk

im with you assbreeze. Go LS1 or just build the shit out of a plain old 350.
i want a bike so bad. I have kinda been contemplating whether i should get what I really want ( 600cc sport bike), or get some old 1980's bike to learn on.

considered a Suzuki SV650?
its a good bike to start out with, its not as fast as a 600 but has a good amount of power. Nice bike overall. --
