It's bad enough that auto insurance is a forced necessity, not out of concept (because it's solid in theory, it just sucks in reality, much like most political ideas,) but because companies use it fucking exploit people for far more money and profit than necessary. Why do you think auto insurance is such a headache and a whole lot of bullshit? We're well on the way to having health insurance become the same thing, just ten times more expensive. Not to mention driving is a choice, no matter how annoying it may be to commute without it. There'd be absolutely zero choice involved with this proposed plan, you either get the national coverage, or pay. If I get sick (recently had mono) I go to the doc. I pay for it out of pocket. I dont enjoy forking over major quantities of cash but its the way it is FORCING me to fork over about 6x my usual annual medical costs for insurance(est coverage would be double the fine) is retarded. Its really not a bad idea because the people who dont have it and dont pay their bills are the one that fuck everything up. But i still dont agree with it. -- Sold
