Trans Temp Gauge Install

Posted By: drauka On: 07-02-2009 @ 10:52:47         Reply | Edit
Hey all,

I'm planning on doing some tranny work and want to put in a temp gauge first. Most people say to put the sensor in the threaded test port hole. That seems easy enough, but how hard is it to run the wire up to an AC vent hole?

Also, if I'm mounting it in the AC vent hole, is there easy access to 12v in case the gauge has a backlight?

Finally, what diameter gauge fits in that hole? I seem to remember 2 5/8", is that correct?

Thanks for everyone's help, as always.

route the wires through the fire wall and pop the dash apart to the vent you want to use. drill a hole for the wires, and mount the gauge. pretty easy install, just time consuming. theres some threads online about the installs and gauge size.

yes put the sensor/sender in the test port hole. it fits perfectly.

drill a small hole (big enough for the wire) through the front of the tunnel...right under where the center dash sits (radio hvac etc). if ur puttin the gauge in ur vents then ur ground will be the hvac ground...and as always, use the fat pink wire for 12v ignition.

there is a backlight (if you get autometer)...you can run that to the same ground and power.

get the 2 5/8 size. if its too big...then just sand the vent hole until it fits.

Awesome, thank you both.

Just ordered the autometer. There was another brand with more color options but it was only 2 1/16 and I trust the autometer name for reliability more. Maybe it's foolish but heyyyy.

Thanks again.

autometer is great...unbelievable customer service. i use them for everything minus my wideband.

one of the wire clips in my vacuum/boost gauge came out...and i called them to see if i could get a new alligator clip from them or if they could direct me to a vendor (no one local carried that size)...

two days later i had a brand new wiring harness at my door...no charge no questions asked.
