What motor for my S-10 Blazer project

Posted By: 4Birdman On: 06-23-2009 @ 14:23:24         Reply | Edit
Well, since I'm losing my indoor storage when my grandfather sells his cabin, it is time to finally rebuild this thing. It was my first car, so it is time to do the things I've always wanted to to it.

I'm definitely putting a SBC V8 in it, but I'm wondering what to put in it.

350 is the most obvious, but also the most common. A 383 would be cool, but might be too expensive to get one. 327 or 302 would be cool as well, but harder to find. An LS motor would be cool too, but again the cost.

What do you guys think?

For $500, I'd get a junkyard 350 and throw a cam in it or something.

Something budget minded and cool? I say do a 4.3 v6 with a backyard turbo setup. Or a 4.8 ls that you build with revs in mind. This won't be your fast vehicle, so do something cool. A 350 is so common in those things now.

Well, just had a guy email me and offer me a rebuildable 350 that is complete for $50.

I'm going to grab it. Maybe I'll do a 383 since I have a buddy who runs a machine shop and I'm not dropping much on the engine.

I hate the sound of a V6, even with a turbo.

Maybe a TT 350. Would that make you happy?

I don't want to deal with the costs involved with running an LS motor. I have two sitting in my shop now, actually.

I don't want to spend the money on wiring, transmission, etc. They don't make headers for it, so I'd have to build those, and in general it will nickel and dime me to death. I'm really just keeping those as spares for my truck.

Dude, a Cummins in there would be awesome. I wanted to do that back when I when I worked as an engineer there and was driving the Blazer every day.

Wonder if it would fit. I've seen it in Rangers, but never an S-10. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

A guy started a Cummins swap a long time ago in an S10. As far as I can tell he never finished it. Seems like a pretty big undertaking.

Picked up some parts for my Blazer today. Got a passenger's front fender, air dam, rear bumper, and black grille.

Picking up a 350 for it next week.

Not sure when I'll bringing it back home, but we'll see.
