Am I gay? Ive started drinking wine a bit since I started seeing the lady. At first I hated it but now I'm starting to get used to it. Takes a lot less wine to fuk me up than beer.
wine ftw?? --

I started smoking cigars the same time I started drinking wine. I caught a lot of crap for it but to me it's more fun (wine and cigars) than beer/cigarettes because there's more options, styles, tastes, etc. Of course theres tons of beer and cigarettes but all in all wine and cigars have a lot more complexity.
That and wine's 12-17% ABV is nice. More efficient. Heh.

A good botle of wine and a good cigar are a gret way to spend an evening or just to finish one.
Both have thousands of flavors and varieties to choose from and half the fun is finding out which ones you do or do not like. Matching a wine to a meal is pretty easy if you know why you like the wine. The same goes for matching a smoke to a drink.

You're good. I love my beer while shooting some pool, mowing the lawn, whatever. There are some times when a couple of bottles of White Catawba and a cigar just seem to fit. Never mix the two combos and you are golden. :-) Enjoy!! -- 00' Trans Am convertible, M6 ,K&N, Edelbrock exhaust. SLP Loudmouth coming soon.

White wines have been considered "weaker" wines that are only good for BBQs and salads, but there are a million of them out there that are excellent.
I just finished a class where we sampled over 200 whites from around the world that cost less than $20/bottle.
Whites change their taste depending on how you serve them.
Here is a trick:
Put a bottle in the fridge. Take it out after an hour and open it. Pour a 1/2 glass and spend some time drinking that. Go back a 1/2 hour later and do the same. At some point before the bottle is empty, you will find the proper temp at which to serve that wine. Each glass wil taste completely different than the one before.
As for reds, room temp is best. never chill it. Make sure you let that bottle breathe before you pour, or you will not let the flavors develop and really make that wine taste even better. -- When we remember we are all mad, the mysteries disappear and life stands explained - Samuel Clemens

As for hangovers, I read an article that rated different alcohols and how bad the hangover will be. This is a resulkt of the distillation/refining and how the tannins or yeast or whatnot alters the drink.
Vodka is by far the best for not having a hangover because of its purity and high rate of refining.
White wines are next for the same reason.
Basically it went down the darker the drink got. Beer was third (mostly because its just water). Red wines were next. And last was Scotch.
Back to topic, I agree with oneowner: to me hlf the fun is finding the combo that works for you.
My first cigar was a monte cristo from cuba. Big mistake. Its like having a ferrari for your first car. When you go to the '85 corsica it's just not the same. Now all I smoke are cubans and a very select few dominicans. -- '99 T/A Pewter A4 - SLP Lid, SLP LM, Pacesetter LT's, ORY, Custom Floormats!!

White are great. Nothing like a crisp white wine. Its so much easier to find a good inexpensive white than a red. There are some really poor cheap reds that seem to be all over. All you can taste is oak and dirt. -- Owner of HBHRacing.com Xtreme performance products

I've never really been much of a wine person. I have had some from local vineyards and some that a friend makes at home. I don't really know enough about them to say if they were quality or not. I do find that I like a sweeter wine though, not real big on wines at the dryer end of the scale.
For some reason I've had a craving for mead as of late. It's real hard to find any real mead around here though. I would love to try some stuff from Redstone Meadery in Colorado but they don't distribute in PA. --

For a non-cuban try Graycliff cigars. They're located in the bahamas and are run by the guy that invented Cohiba and was castros personal cigar roller for 20'ish years.

Sorry I brought up the whites.... I enjoy both whites and reds, but the darks really don't like my system.( heartburn ) Nick is right that they are good for BBQ or Salads.....they do tend to compliment FOOD, in turn, less hangover affects. I cook with white wine all the time. A nice "pink" wine is fine for me but some of them damned ice wines are just WAY TO SWEET!! Sweet = BAD Headache IMHO. -- 00' Trans Am convertible, M6 ,K&N, Edelbrock exhaust. SLP Loudmouth coming soon.

woohoo, shameless food blog plug!
i think i cook with wine more than I drink it. but i agree, that "roam" wine is tasty.
i also use white wine with my braised cod recipe, some red wine in my saucy penne pasta dinner, and red wine in my beef stew (all except the last are listed on my blog as well). i also put a bit of white wine in alfredo sauce for some balance.
oh and just remember, wines under 10 bucks a bottle give you the worst hangovers in the world! i know from experience
