My Old Iroc

I started a while back entitled something to the tune of "Bought Back My Old IROC". This is a continuation.
For a little background, I bought back an old 86 IROC-Z I owned in the early 90's. Sold it in '95, I think. Anyhow, 13 years later (three months ago) bought it back LESS an engine with the SAME inspection sticker on it that it had when I sold it, and I'm THINKING just a thousand more miles, to the best of my recollection, of the mileage it had when I sold it.
So, the car's set for a long time, has some rusty chasis and brake parts, body in great condition, interior is fairly decent for the most part. Underpan/body is rust free.
Anyhow, paid a grand for the car and already have close to $5K more in it & don't even have it running yet (need to bolt on accessories, radiator, etc.). Bought a professionally built 350 sbc with vortec HO heads, .457 lift cam, 9.5/1 compression, bored .030, Edlebrock Performer intake, Edelbrock 750 cfm carb, MSD distributor, shorty headers, 3" dual exhaust, all new exterior components (i.e. alt., starter, a/c compressor, a/c lines, condensor, etc., clutch, master/slave/reservoir setup). Engine was put on a stand, started, and already broken in by the builder - I was there to hear it fire, which it did without even turning over more than a couple times - pretty impressive.
So, I'm sitting here with six grand in a car that doesn't run and looking into restoring the car back to original. However, after looking around at other IROC's, I can put 10 more grand into this car - and will to get it back into a "mint" state - but still have a car that's worth just six or seven grand, on the top side, because of the mileage and non-original engine.
Found a cherry convertible, 5 speed (I've a boner for 5 speed IROC's, won't give an auto a 2nd look), with 40K original miles for $15K. Mine, with $15K dumped into it, will still only be worth 6 or 7.
So, I'm thinking of the show "Pimp My Ride" the other day and get to thinking...hmmmm...lower it a couple inches, put a set of 20" chromed IROC rims on it, do some other trick ops to the exterior, "pimp" out the interior and under the hood. I don't know.
Planning on keeping the car regardless. If my wife would let me, I'd fly to GA and pick up the convertible also. haha.
No specific questions, just sharing my frustration of having a car that I could dump thousands into and still only have a car worth a fraction of what is invested.

What is it worth to you? Think of taking it to shows and just having all that hard work and sweat pay off. Let alone an awesome story to go along with it. -- 2000 Camaro- 3.8, 5- Speed. Ram Air Hood (non functional at the moment)
SOLD-1989 Pontiac Firebird with 2.8

Alright, I may be interested in selling the IROC, if anybody interested. Going to complete the engine install - only need to install new clutch slave/master/reservoir and finish up bolting accessories on front of engine, as well as radiator, A/C condensor, and have exhaust installed.
Email me at quenton1@frontiernet.net if interested.
Thanks.

My GOSH!!!
Down to the final wire hookups on "My Old IROC" and what a friggin mess. Either the jackazz I sold it to 13 years ago, or the the jackazz that he sold it to shredded the engine wiring harness.
There's wires cut here and there. There's wires inside the loom that have turned black obviously cuz they were extremely hot at one point or another.
That, in association with swapping from the old V-belt setup to the serpentine setup with new model accessories (a/c, alt, etc.) with different types of connectors, I'm having a heckuva time.
Have found three wiring harnesses to replace mine; hopefully one of them will pan out.
Then, have to find the newer type connectors.
I think it'll all be worth it in the end as I'm doing everything the "right" way, but man-o-man, sometimes I think if I only knew then what I know now...that car'd still be setting where I saw it.
On a positive note, the three inch exhaust is looking pretty friggin phat. Beefy looking 3" of exhaust the whole way back coming out of 3" polished tips...shweet.
Was worried the carb sit too high and was going to have to replace the intake with a lower one, but found that it's probably going to work. So, am looking to find an original from one of the HO cars with the dual intake snorkels. *crossed fingers*
