Im doing a cat back exhaust (old system completely rusted and fell off) on my 92 firebird 3.1 and i can only afford the cheap parts from autozone.
kit will be $93 + tax
Im assuming this is nothing but unprotected sheet metal (at these prices) so my question is what i can do to protect it? some sort of anti-corrosion/rust spray was what i was thinking but the problem is will it work on hot exhaust systems or just burn off?

if your on a budget, pick up some bbq spray paint for the piping.
ive had no issues with it on my catback or y pipe since i finished the header install which was almost 2 months ago, and my car is daily driven in stop and go traffic. --

I had a local muffler shop install a system from the cat back. He had to bend all the pipes and everything. I got a stock replacement muffler and chrome slash cut exhaust tips on my 86 2.8 for $160. The tips were like 25 a piece so it would have been about $110 with plain exhaust. Maybe even cheaper if I'd wanted one exhaust out the back. I had to change the fuel pump and cut the exhaust off. Then I didn't want to put glass pack back on because it was annoying so I had a new setup installed.
Good Luck, call around to some muffer shops and tell them what you want. May cost you a bit more, but it'd be a lot less headache.
